An open letter to Kieran McKenna and the squad: I was wrong 07:45 - Apr 29 with 713 viewsRIPbobby

To the Gaffer and the Lads,

I’m stepping up to the plate today to say what needs to be said: **I’m sorry.**
For large parts of this season, I’ll admit I let the frustration get the better of me. It’s been a grueling campaign at times, watching team after team park the bus, waste time, and deploy the kind of negative "anti-football" tactics that make ninety minutes feel like a lifetime. In those moments of stalemate, it’s easy for a fan to start grumbling—to question the system or wonder why we aren't "just breaking them down."

**Last night against Southampton changed everything.**

### The Beautiful Game, Reclaimed

For the first time in a long while, we weren't playing against a brick wall; we were playing against a side that actually dared to compete. And my goodness, did you show them what Ipswich Town is really about.

* **The Intent:** From the first whistle, the relentless attacking football was breathtaking.

* **The Bravery:** You didn't shy away from a high-pressing, high-quality side. You took the game to them.

* **The Identity:** That match was a reminder that when a team actually tries to play football against us, we don't just compete—we dominate the narrative.

### A Lesson in Performance vs. Result

I’m still scratching my head wondering how we didn't walk away with all three points. In any just world, that level of dominance results in a comfortable win. But football is rarely just.

What matters more to me this morning than the league table is the **realization of how good we actually are.** We’ve spent months being "stuffed" by negativity, but against one of the strongest sides in the division, we looked like the superior force.

"It’s easy to look average when the opposition refuses to play. It takes a night like last night to remind us that this team is special."

### Moving Forward

Consider this my formal retraction of any mid-season moaning. You’ve proven that the philosophy is right, the talent is there, and the heart is massive. If teams want to come at us, we give them a lesson. If they want to sit back, we’ll keep knocking until the door breaks.

Keep playing with that fire. We see you, we’re behind you, and we finally remember exactly why we fell in love with this style of play.

Maybe he and they deserved and have earned a bit more faith rather than moans and groans?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

I think you have to consider our style of play in the context of how the rest of the division play against us. It's very *very* difficult to control a game when teams set out to waste time, focus on set plays and getting in the ear of the referee.

Every week this season we've largely faced the best version of every team. We've been the team most sides have wanted to beat. That's the biggest difference between 2023/24 and now. We're not the plucky underdogs.

But, there is a real chance, that we won't be playing the best version of QPR on Saturday. If we turn up and, as fans, we do our bit by backing them, I see no other outcome than promotion by 2.30pm.

I'm apologising for my small whinges. I don't complain anywhere as near as some on here, but time and again it comes home how good we are against a side who tries to play.

In fairness to me I have often said that the negative tactics kill us and I normally get shot down. Hopefully others will apologise to K MC etc al.
