The 2-3 years in the 1980s when I finished work by lunch time every other day was, in some ways, quite nice. Until, that is, a female colleague from a neighbouring office was murdered doing her job.

As I understand it, the advertising/design industry in the west end was all like that in the 80's - often it would be off to lunch about 12.30 and maybe pop back into the studio around 6pm before heading to the pub for drinks...
I started in 1992, so I missed all those kind of shenanigans.
