In their last Championship season Rotherham had some notable results, including a 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion, a team that was promoted come the end of the season. Rotherham were one of the poorest Championship sides we have seen at that time.

If you analyse our results over the last few season there are plenty of wins against teams higher up the table and plenty of defeats to those below us. We won 1-0 at Derby County last year, 1-0 at Aston Villa the season before that. We lost away to Birmingham last season and lost at Rotherham the year before.

That is the nature of the Championship even when you have a settled side and confidence is flowing let alone a number of new signings and a new system. I make it 6 players on Saturday who were starting their first or second game for the club, plus Edun in his second sub appearance and Roberts on his debut.

We should actually give Hurst and Doig credit for how well we played in view of the above. It's no mean feat at all to play so well even against a side we all expect to be down there.

Over the course of this season I am sure we'll have some very good days and some very bad ones. Every club does each season. It's rather unfortunate that we've suffered one of those poor results so early on but it is the sort of result even promoted teams will have, let alone a team with mid-table aspirations at best realistically, with so many new faces.

Perception is a funny thing. Norwich were thrashed at home by an awful Sunderland team last season (3-0) but it happened early enough in the season for their fans to not be too outraged because the expectation were Sunderland could be one of the top sides.

I am sure come the end of the season the Rotherham result will be meaningless, but for now because of the timing of what is just one of those typical Championship results, it has unfortunately taken on greater significance to those without patience.

Poll: How many points from 18 would Lambert need to have to actually be sacked?
