Midwest policing always sticks out for me. Many of the police I came across in smaller towns liked to conduct themselves we a front of intimidation. I remember when I was in the SW of KS there were a group of 3 or 4 police who convened by the till and chatted, but always leered over people paying for things.

Of course, these are isolated incident that I noticed in my time there, I like to think it was not an indictment of American police as a whole, but there are clearly training and standards opportunities there.
