I hope some people will learn from this and reflect on whether we may have been taking the wrong path. I suspect not and we’ll be back to a selfish ideology in no time, but we can hope. I know nothing about pandemics, but did spend years working on natural disaster prevention. Preparedness was a key aspect in reducing risk and impacts. We weren’t prepared for this. Running down public services, shifting labour practices so the risk is on the individual, undermining trust in experts, straining our relationship with our country neighbours and dividing society to achieve political career goals of a few... All have made us weaker and less prepared to cope. Any country will suffer to deal with this, but we could have been in a better starting position. | |
