Brexit confusion 21:33 - Jun 2 with 540 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Wetherspoon wants us to allow more EU citizens in so he can get the staff he needs. We now have record levels of EU migrants coming over from France (according to Telegraph) and (from same article) MPs are calling on us to force France to take them back. Wasn't Brexit going to stop this from happening and are these simply the wrong sort of people to satisfy Wetherspoon's needs? https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/force-the-french-to-take-back-channel-migra

Although of course the Brexiteers wanted people to think it would. I suspect the vast majority aren’t EU citizens, so it’s a completely different issue to the impact of Brexit stopping freedom of movement of EU workers.

Not completely different because, as you allude to, the Brexit campaign deliberately equated all these different things and suggested that EU membership was what prevented us controlling our own borders. Now I guess it is the horrible EU preventing us sending them back to France that is the problem. Of course there are multiple issues and the article is generally referring to illegal immigrants. However, the Brexit campaign deliberately tried to equate all these things and played to the xenophobic nature of many. Such a shame to hear many fans choosing to boo taking of the knee at the football today. Good to hear more applauding it but Brexit has enabled the racists to be vocal.
