This summer 21:08 - Sep 1 with 493 views | RKD | Feels pretty important, doesn't it? There have been some exciting moments this summer being an Ipswich fan following the transfer window. Realistically they don't come anywhere near to the quality of previous notable signings like Stewart, Finidi, Hreidarsson. Mariner, Muhren, Thijssen - but that shouldn't be a stick to beat the new lads with. We've still punched above our weight in terms of where we are at the moment, and a lot of the players would have turned down other attractive options. The recruitment has been slick, and kicked into gear just before it would have been the norm to start to panic a little. The owners, Ashton, and Cook seem to have done a very a good job which will hopefully soon result in good results, and they deserve their fair share of credit. I think the biggest pull for these players was the glamour of an exciting unknown entity of a new ownership that has the potential to awaken a sleeping, potentially comatosed, giant. The sales pitch would have been listing all of the legends and achievements of this club, talking about the change in fortune of other clubs like Leicester, Wolves, Leeds and convince them that the club will eventually go on a similar journey. The club is hitting the reset button and is crying out for people to come in and become instant legends, being part of the team that kickstarted the revival. For years we have been seen as a sinking ship and probably quite a depressing club to be play at for anyone, whereas now we're seen as the opposite. Have a rubbish season then we lose that image, but if we storm it then we have the resources to make the most of it and have the same effect in The Championship next season. Fingers crossed. | |
