Spending £40m on Sigurdsson and £20m on Klaasen then gave Rooney 150k a week in the same summer despite them all playing in the same position was the worst of it. Since then they've overpaid for countless others - £35m on Iwobi, £30m on Keane. Yerry Mina is decent but was he worth £25m or whatever he cost? Same with Richarlison for £50m. Funnily enough probably their best player, Calvert-Lewin, was signed from Sheff Utd, who were then in League 1.
Eyewatering sums of money wasted there. You'd have thought that a club of that size could have broken into the top 6 a few times if they had spent more wisely. |  |
