Independent SAGE recommending immediate circuit break until 24th December, on the basis that 4 more doublings (=8 days) would result in hospital admissions as high as last January, even on the assumption that Omicron is only half as severe in effect as Delta, which is far from 'known'.

Immediate circuit break required, in my humble and amateur opinion.

It's not your opinion, it's their opinion.

In summary -

Omicron is now doubling at less than every two days.
London and Scotland have highest rates, now over 50% of all new infections.
Omicron infections are in addition to delta.
No evidence that Omicron is less dangerous - still too early to conclude that.
Previous suggestions of a circuit break from them (and SAGE proper) have been ignored by politicians.
They are recommending a lockdown (Hospitality closed and limited indoor gathering) until xmas. Short period of family gathering and then relock down Dec 28th.
They also recognise need to review given the fast changing nature of the data.
