2 solid performances and two terrible ones means it’s hard to know what to make of McGreal. I’ve watched all 4 games and there’s been good and bad. At Charlton he gave them the impetus in the second half by switching to a 442 from the 4231 giving Dobson all the time in the world to pull the strings, which prevented us looking likely to get back in the game. Wigan was a solid, resolute if unspectacular 442 performance. We were slightly fortunate with Keane’s late miss but that’s what Keane does best and we were worthy of a point after matching the midfield battle. Barrow was a National horror show and the 4222 system gave them the first half and a pass into the 3rd round. We were too narrow when we should have exploited the space in the channels, which we failed to do at The Valley even with the 4231 Sunderland at home a 3142 was very encouraging and astute. Putting Morsy on Pritchard and exploring the width worked well. Good to see KVY and Penney getting game time in those wide roles. All in, a mixed bag from him and Dyer but they’ve given us two credible draws for McKenna to build on, experimented with about 5 systems so hopefully they’ve teed it up nicely for the new mgmt even if they depart without a victory. | |
