Shoot first ask questions later.
My Dad went to the US when he was a student. A group of them got separated and came back to where they were staying later than the rest. As they didn't have access and a window was open one climbed in through it. The chap they were staying with woke up and shot him.
There are very good reasons why routinely arming the police is wrong. Only look at the misuse of the Tazer already. |  |

I am not even sure it is as simple as that. You are asking an average cop to make a spur of the moment call based on the evidence available. In this country our specialist firearm officers are highly trained for the scenarios they are likely to face. Even then they sometimes get it wrong. Our regular cops are armed with Tazers and that presents problem enough.
I can't imagine suddenly being confronted with a violent individual in a busy shop and having a gun readily available. They should want to have had all the training our specialist firearms officers have got. I can't imagine that they will be enjoying their Christmas any more than the victims' families are. They will be facing an investigation into their conduct and (assuming they are even half decent human beings) they know they are responsible for taking the girl's life. Even in America, I assume they will be facing charges for this. | |
