Space X - Booster landing 22:37 - Jan 31 with 615 viewsSamuelowen88

Today Space X will launch a Falcon 9 and attempt to land a booster back on land. Normally at sea landing on their drone ship but the southern launch trajectory means a return to land is easier.

If you haven't seen them land a booster on land yet, it is quite a sight. To think a few years ago people said this would never work.

Launch scheduled for 11:12pm landing a short while later.

Assuming there isn't bad weather, or a ship in the way, or something ...

Speaking as someone who has stayed up for the previous four attempts to launch this thing!

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Indeed.

Re your OP, I'm quite a fan of NSF, like their enthusiasm.

Nothing is going to beat the two Falcon 9 first stages landing in harmony from the first Falcon Heavy launch.

It's unbeatable until Starship works.

NSF are good, as are the whole 'community' great coverage, and discussion.

Everyday Astronaut is great as well. Some of his deep dive videos are so so good. Wouldn't be surprised to see some on syllabus in the near future.

Tho that footage of the plumes interacting after stage separation tonight was pretty incredible.

Yeah that was an incredible moment. Just a shame the main core was lost after landing. 3/3 landing safely is still great.

Even the starship prototype landing is just mental. The soft sea landing will probably go fine as no different really to what they have already achieved.

When they try to catch with the chopsticks, that will be something to watch.

Indeed. EA's tour of Boca Chica guided by Musk himself was quite remarkable.

It doesn't really matter that the central section was lost, it was landing on a ship and thus it makes to different to the magnificent shot which as I said is going to be hard to beat before Starship comes along.

Makes no difference to the shot, but would have been good to recover all 3.
