To show how high the points total is this year 08:52 - Mar 9 with 855 viewstractordownsouth

After 37 games in the 2014/15 season (when Wolves and Derby both broke the previous record for highest points total outside the top 6 on 78 and 77) we were on 61 points, only 2 better off than we are now.

However, the table looked like this, with everyone having played 37 games. This season, if we assume Wycombe win their game in hand and Sheff Wed and Plymouth win at least one of theirs, that puts us 6 points off Oxford in 6th and still behind Wycombe and Sunderland. If other teams' points totals were the same as 2014/15 we'd be 7th - only 3 points off the play offs and 8 points off automatic promotion.

1 Bournemouth 69
2 Watford 69
--------------------------
3 Middlesbrough 69
4 Derby 67
5 Norwich 66
6 Brentford 62
--------------------------
7 Town 61
8 Wolves 59
9 Forest 54
10 Blackburn 54

I think they'll just miss out. I can't see MK or Sheff Wed dropping out, so we're chasing down Wycombe, Sunderland, Oxford and Plymouth. I reckon we'll need at least 77.

Based on this I think it's going to be around 77 / 78 points this year - think it's basically because the bottom 8 or so teams are pretty much not taking points off the top 8 at all which is unusual at this level.

Yeah, think if we get at least a draw against Portsmouth and beat Oxford and Plymouth then we could take it to the last few games. But if we don't beat Oxford and Plymouth I don't see us catching them, there's too many teams in form, with games in hand.

It's all very well saying if we get 2 points a game we'll do it, but there's 6 other teams who are also going at 2 points a game!

6 points from the next 3 will be fine provided we don't then drop points against Shrewsbury and Cambridge.
