Barnsley forum review... oh dear I'm feeling way too confident ahead of this one 11:30 - Aug 27 with 1184 viewsunstableblue

Scanning the Barnsley forum (see below), and their assessment of where their team and new manager are.. and with Ladapo, Ball, Burns all pushing for a place, and a strong return expected from Edmundson - its tempted to start dreaming of a 5th straight win, a clean sheet and a few goals

Doesn't feel right being this bullish - "This is Ipswich!" for gods sake!

I have to say I think this will be a strong test.. they need to get their season going, ex-player leading the line, ex-Championship quality play... a draw could play as per my original prediction.

How's everyone else feeling???

I can't sadly make it the temple today, good excuse, honest, so sing your frickin hearts out, bring the energy... don't be a spectator be a participant!! wibble wibble

Final note: Tyke forum says 600 away fans which seems low.

BARNSLEY FORUM ON TODAY:

"I'll go for a 2-2 draw with Tedic notching one.
-----I'd snap your hand off for a 2-2 draw providing we come hard and late from behind. Equalising on the stroke of full-time."

"2-0 Ipswich. They are very very good at the moment and we are not on the same level currently."

"1-0 defeat sadly. We never get anything there."

"Ipswich 117-0 Barnsley
------Same, but we notch 6 consolation goals in injury time. 117-6"

"3-0. Again."

"Ipswich 0 v 3 Super Reds"

"It's always a 2-0 loss at Portman Road. We need Mike Turner.
----We haven't lost 2-0 at Portman Road since 1992. We do have a shocking record against them in recent years though, not beaten them since 3-1 at their place in 2011. Can't see that changing Saturday. 2-1 Ipswich."

"I have a feeling Connor Chaplin will score. A ridiculous decision letting him,Solbauer and Frieser go,last season,we really needed them and this season too.
-------Yeah, always liked Chaplin, thought he was a constant thorn in defenders side and wouldn’t allow them to relax for a minute"

"Backed Ipswich to win the league but hopefully this will be there one and only home defeat 2-1 Reds"

I wouldn’t be surprised if we nicked a point. Low expectations, play without pressure etc.

"Im gonna say 1-1. It’s not like we’ve abject all the time. Fancy Aitchison to make one count first half with a second half equaliser for them after a period ‘under the pump’."

"4-0 to Ipswich"

"We do rubbish in front of bigger crowds generally and our away form has been woeful for ages. We've let in three goals in back to back games. I would take a point now but expect us to lose 2-0 with our lack of options up top."

"2 - 1 Ipswich, Conor Chaplain last minute sub sealing their victory. Really hope I'm wrong and the Cole Tedic partnership gets a hat trick!"

"Ipswich have been tight at the back not giving opponents many chances, so conceding few goals. Maybe a long range effort from Benson may produce a goal but otherwise nil is looking the favourite. Defensive we are producing cock ups in recent matches that will see us concede, can see Chappers notching for them."

"Chaplin hat trick, Cole hitting the woodwork twice. 3-0 Ipswich."

It's still recent enough that anything predicted in the When Saturday Comes preview can be considered pertinent. The vibe of the Barnsley correspondent was that a second straight relegation was possible, so bullishness was not in much evidence. Early results have been inconsistent. We should be targetting a win, I feel.

Cue Towns first loss of the season then, Such is the way of football. Overconfidence, potential lack of respect for the opponent (who were championship last season). I hope it’s not written in the stars. Let’s keep our feet on the ground…. It’s hard I know. I’m going to PR today, hoping for another win, but fearing a Norwood sucker punch.

It’s all about consistency, and not dropping our standards and performance through complacency

Looking at the form sheet it’s a great time to play them

But as Chaplin and others state they have good players, play a style closer to ours, and critically they are desperate for a win.

I predicted a draw at start of season… and that would still be a great return for August

But I think Weds and Pompey will win today, so how good would a 5th straight win be? I was there at Palace for the last time and glorious win.

Well you’re right of course. Snd st some point we have to take points off our promotion rivals . I’d say the table as it is now , ie who’s in those top 6-8 positions is pretty much how it will be at the end of the season. Just hope it’s EXACTLY like that lol !
