Just consider the next 2 games take us to 41% of the season 13:06 - Oct 30 with 974 viewsunstableblue

We’ll have played 19 games after we play Cheltenham (h) and Exeter (a) of a 46 game season

We then go into the second FA cup break, before returning for a very big December with Peterborough, Pompey, Wycombe and Oxford.

If we win against Cheltenham and Exeter we’ll have 43 points, that’s 2.26 ppg

Making us on track for 104 points… Wigan was 92 and Rotherham 90 for promotion.

So we’ll have had a great start to the season.

But man it’s a long season, and I think the thrown away win at Charlton robbed the players and fans of one of those defining moment boosts that the project can thrive and accelerate from, and which most promotion campaigns have.

It’s not the 2 points dropped it’s the momentum injection lost

But win the next two and it’s all forgotten, and we give ourselves the platform of points outlined above.

The difference this season is the faith in McKennas approach to turn the Valley into a positive and a learning experience for the rest of the season.

Cheltenham and Exeter will be buoyed by watching the Charlton repeat, and analysing our lack of aerial dominance on defence. We will have to be at our best.

Long way to go

As a lot of people said after a couple ofKM games he’s got a lot to learn as well and we have to give him some leeway in doing that. Frankly he’s achieved far more in less than 11 months than I was expecting

I had meant to say that McKenna only has 44 games experience as a manager, of leading a team.

He’s learning still and the players with him.

Despite his green career he has a 54% win record, albeit at League One.

I’m convinced he and the players will learn from The Valley get tactics to see games out better.

There were 4 or 5 moments we could have managed better to take the 3 points.

I think the players got caught in the frenzied atmosphere generated by the away end, and their heads were at the final whistle.

In McKenna we trust, but he is learning, he’s getting experience himself. He still has been with the players for a relatively short time. And frankly if he wasn’t so green, a man of his talent wouldn’t be with us in League One

Quick point on your OP - we don’t have a World Cup break, the blank weekend is FACup round 2
