Heartbreaking. Especially with young kids, and at that time of year. Of course it's heartbreaking at any time of year but for that altercation in your own home, the place you're meant to feel safe as you're getting ready for Christmas day. Just doesn't bare thinking about. |  |

MURDER INVESTIGATION | The shocking criminal history of two teens accused of murdering a Queensland mum in a home invasion can be revealed, as social media posts highlight their brazen antics as part of a gang partaking in joyrides in stolen cars.
The two teens had their matters heard in Brisbane Children’s Court on Wednesday after being charged with the murder of North Lakes woman Emma Lovell and the attempted murder of her husband Lee Lovell on Boxing Day night.
They cannot be named for legal reasons.
7NEWS understands one of the boys was responsible for the stabbing of a man in his St Lucia home in Brisbane last year.
The then 15-year-old was charged with attempted murder, was sentenced and has since been released from custody.
It is also understood one of the boys was arrested on Christmas Eve this year and charged with multiple offences.
He was released on bail despite police objections on Boxing Day, hours before he allegedly stabbed Emma Lovell to death.
On Wednesday, it was also revealed two other teen boys - aged 17 and 16 - who were under investigation over the alleged murder of Lovell are facing stealing charges related to a separate incident on the afternoon of Boxing Day, December 26.
They have been released on bail ahead of their appearance in Brisbane Children’s Court at a later date.
The social media profiles of the boys show multiple posts of them and associates travelling in high speeds in stolen cars.
Multiple members of their families have called for them to be “free”, on social media posts.
Queensland’s Liberal National Party has again called for breach of bail to be made an offence, so young offenders are imprisoned for failing to stick to court-ordered conditions.
Shadow attorney-general Tim Nicholls said jail time wasn’t the only answer, but there needed to be a deterrent for repeat offenders.
“There needs to be punishment, and the community needs to feel safe at the moment,” he said.
“I can tell you the community out there is screaming that they’re not being kept safe.”
Youth Justice Minister Leanne Linard said the last time breach of bail was a crime, it didn’t result in any child offender serving any extra time behind bars but the current presumption against bail was more effective.
“I cannot provide any guarantee that that will mean there will never be any more crime but we will do everything we can, always, in our power, to make sure that the absolute weight of the law comes down on people who break the law,” Linard told reporters on Tuesday.
The victim of the St Lucia stabbing, Aaron Anderson, spoke to 7NEWS following the North Lakes incident.
He said he underwent a long period of rehabilitation after surviving his attack.
Anderson said he was “very disappointed” with his attacker’s punishment and believes “the system itself needs an overhaul”.
“There’s certainly need for some very careful consideration on the youth justice system and how we can better protect the community,” he said.
He noted a “very strong focus on youth rehabilitation (and) youth reintegration to the community”.
“I think that’s just too far skewed against the need to protect the community itself,” he said.
Calls for change
He called for an overhaul of the Youth Justice Act with a “stronger focus on community safety”.
The parents of Angus Beaumont, who was murdered in a stabbing by teens in Redcliffe in 2020, said the Lovell family was “caught in this youth crime epidemic”.
“I’m so sorry your family has been dealt such a cruel blow,” they said on Facebook page Justice for Angus Beaumont, also accusing the state government of having a “soft touch” on youth crime.
A petition has been set up calling for mandatory jail and no bail for armed and violent repeat home invaders, with the Lovell family supporting this.
“Although Emma’s passing has ripped our family apart, I just hope there will be a positive change to come from this,” Lee Lovell said in a statement.
“I urge the politicians who can make changes to do so and not just talk about it to gain votes for the next election.
“You need to act and following through the talking with change.
“Emma’s life will be best honoured by a positive change occurring and laws changed.”

Hopefully they are able to get out there soon to offer as much support as they can to their son and grandchildren, just tragic for them all and must be so hard being on the other side of the world when it all happens | |
