But the trend is upward, and we mustn't forget the old adage that Leagues are won by defences. We now have a defence made up of 7 or 8 players who can slot in for each other without too much disruption, or loss in quality.
Today's starting back 4 (or 3 or 5 depending how you read it) was the strongest blend we can field, in my opinion. But KVY, Greg Leigh (when fit) and Edmundson are incredibly good back ups to have. I would have been happy with them as the bench options in our Championship days. Add in Keogh and Ball (when fit) for experience, and factor in that we have very promising youngsters such as Ndaba and Baggott on our books, and it is clear that KM has got the foundations right.
Our strikers work incredibly hard, collectively weigh in with goals and are team players (almost to a fault) but I would still like us to sign a fox in the box with excellent movement in the next window. And another Central Midfielder would be sensible. Humphreys did better than could have been reasonably expected for someone of his age and experience coming in to winter fixtures against physical opponents, but Evans made a real difference today. And Morsy is almost certainly going to miss some games through suspension in the second half of the season. If Humphreys is covet for Evans, then with Ball out and Camara not looking hopeful in the short term, cover for Morsy is essential. Luongo is significantly better then we could reasonably hope for as a cover option, so if he is willing to sign- great! |  | | |
