Whirlwind UK tour day 5 Blackpool 12:23 - Feb 1 with 735 viewsPendejo

Day 3 was Liverpool visit some friends who moved there from London. They live a stones throw from The Kop, so took in a bit of football tourism.
Magnificent stadium, very different to my last visit for 10th anniversary of Hillsborough service.

They are building a new stand behind the old away end, for which they've closed the road, and, if memory serves me, bought and demolished a row of houses.

Felt quite emotional visiting the Hillsborough memorial.

Our friends rent out their drive on matchdays £25 per space, they can fit 4, but only rent 2.

Actually arrived here day 3 and heading to Scotland today.

Blackpool's ground has changed a lot since my last visit, very modern looking with its own hotel and Jimmy Armfield statue and mural. It's not long ago they were a basket case under Oyston.

Next stop, Dumbarton, no rhyme or reason, just randomly selected for West Scotland destination, then onto Dunfermline and Berwick-upon-Tweed via Edinburgh.

Football or general?
Went General as not actually about current season

Did Liverpool use the compulsory purchase order to buy any of those houses in the end. I know they got the CPO but were hoping not to use it.

CPOs are an absolute evil to my mind. I can kind of accept them when they are in place for the good of society as a whole, but I can't see how they can ever be justified for the benefit of a private enterprise like a football club.

They've cleared a massive space around the ground, I dare say CPO were used, can't believe everyone went voluntarily.
Spoke to one guy who was showing his grandson about who had a house behind away end, and his mum where main stand is now. Sold 2 houses, bought 5 now lives off the rent.

Have Blackpool got Matthews, Mortenson and Farm statues? I'm not making a point - just interested.
