Thought this might be of interest - some good comparisons, some facile.

Interesting stuff, particularly from the sports psychologist. Unfair to copy whole chunks of a paywalled article but this bit stuck out:

"'It’s more likely that it’s stress and pressure that is contributing to concentration mistakes' says Sagal, managing partner at the Winning Mind consultancy. 'Potentially what happens is your attention focuses, it can over-focus and you can miss cues in your environment. What might seem like a lapse in concentration is an artefact of stress.'"

Then the following bit about teams who are good when on the front foot finding it difficult when they put themselves, or are forced, into a situation where they're essentially playing against their natural game, i.e. conceding possession of the ball and holding out for the win or a point.

I guess managers are in a bit of a lose/lose in some sense as if they didn't take steps to go more defensive and concede they'll be accused of not being cautious enough but the opposite and then they overdid it. One thing we were good at earlier in the season was shutting games down by keeping the ball, tiring the opposition out and constantly finding the spare man but we've struggled at that recently for whatever reason (plus have found ourselves having to come from behind rather than stay in front).

Also interesting what's said about switching to a more defensive shape to hold out a lead can actually be detrimental because it shifts everyone's focus and mentality as well as disrupting the shape that was working well. Thinking about games like Wednesday and Charlton away where we brought Keogh on and it seemed to mess us up as we left too much space in and around our box for players to get into and score from. Then Plymouth at home we got too deep and they forced a goal home when we were well on top after going 1-0 up. Reminds of the, potentially apocryphal, quote from Alex Ferguson about loving it when teams made changes late in games and went more defensive against Utd as it meant they were stopping what they had been doing so well and gave his side an invitation to tear at them.

Hard to know how you shake yourselves out of it other than being in that position again but coming out with a positive result. Think we have it in us to make sure the game doesn't reach a state where we have to hold onto a slim lead anyway and that is probably our best route out of it.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Also was curious about whether we get too insular and give in to the typical fan thing of 'it always happens to us' etc. so found this table of goals scored and conceded by 10 minute slots across the division plus one of equalising goals scored and conceded.

Shows we're not actually awful at conceding late but notably worse than likes of Wednesday, Derby, Bolton at it, though the former two play a more 'solid' style anyway so, to relate it to the article, it's more natural for them to be in a position of defending what they have so can do it with less stress.

Interesting that we take the lead more times than any other team but concede more equalisers than anyone else as well, indicating what we all know and McKenna has pointed out several times, that we need to be better at putting the game to bed.

Nice - I was trying to source similar but you've done a much better job.

Kind of confirms as I thought: it's an issue, but it's being perceived as way worse than it is.
