What a day 21:10 - Apr 1 with 982 views | clive_baker | Cor I enjoyed that, for so many reasons. The result, the atmosphere, the performance. That was a proper football match. The ref got some stick but I thought he let the game flow pretty well in what were often difficult circumstances and a tempo rarely seen in this division. We started like a train, that first 20 minutes was as good a performance as I’ve see from any League 1 side this season. The most pleasing thing for me though is we’re gradually evolving into a side that can do every side of the game well. A lot of teams can play nice football when they’re 2-0 up at home to Morecambe, but top teams win all sorts of matches. We seem to have more steel about us, resilience, we’ve lost that soft underbelly and petulance that we saw for so long. We’re happy to engage in the dark arts, the tactical breaks, killing their momentum, knowing when to sh1t house for want of a better phrase. We’ve not really seen that from a Town side since Mick I would say, and when we had it then we probably didn’t have enough of the quality to do the other side of it, which we certainly do now. Our movement off the ball is on a different level and the passages of play we’re putting together would be more at home in the top 6 of the Championship than top 6 of L1. The quality of that first goal being case in point, the quick throw out from Walton, the first touch and quality of that crossfield ball from Broadhead was outrageous, inch perfect, the nod down from Burns and movement & finish from Chappers. Mouthwatering. There wasn’t a bad performance out there today, Woolfy & Burgess, Leigh coming out of the cold, Hirst leading the line with some shift, Burns as dangerous as ever. I thought Morsy was on a completely different level, the amount of balls he turned over, his strength and industry, his quality in possession and leadership. He’s such a pro, he knows when to get in the refs ear, his decision making is so on point. A few of his more ambitious passes didn’t come off first half but he’s so neat and tidy, so strong and must be absolutely horrible to play against. There’s not a midfielder in this division that gets close to his levels, and it’s week in week out from him. He’s just ridiculous for League 1, relentlessly consistent, and has the perfect partner in Luongo. He’s almost a bit of a CTRL C CTRL V of Morsy, albeit playing in a different role and with a little more license to roam, but honestly Morsy though. He’s something else isn’t he? Credit to both sets of supporters, I thought the Derby fans did what home fans should do. At times they made it intimidating for the ref, they probably got Clarke booked and got their team going as much as they could, but ultimately our quality won out. I thought they were magnanimous in defeat afterwards and I also noticed a fair few clapping the town players off afterwards. We had a chat with a few post match who were full of praise, and as we agreed I think their time will come, they need to back Warne and he’ll take them back to where they belong. Neither club should be playing it’s football in the 3rd tier. But today was our day. With the result at Hillsborough topping it off, which has firmly opened up the door and put our destiny back in our hands, we now need to step through it. Keep this momentum and performance level into these next 4 big games and see how that sets us up for the final 4. I’ve been saying it for ages and I stand by it, come 10pm on 18th April let’s see what the league table is saying then. If Plymouth come through unscathed then fair play to them, but I wouldn’t rule us out bettering them and sitting on top. Oh and a defeat for Norwich, always nice to see. 1 goal in 4 games for them, they can probably count their meaningful shots on target across those 4 games one hand too (I appreciate they have an advantage on that front). They’re serving up some dross and they should and will fear playing us again. A couple of decent pubs post match, a delicious curry (thanks for the recommendation TWTD). Vegetable madras, mushroom rice and garlic naan for those wondering, with a couple of ice cold Cobras. Top away day. We’re on our way.

What a day on 21:28 - Apr 1 with 865 views | le2blue | Morsy was on different levels, a pleasure to watch him play, and loved his interceptions, he was everywhere. What about the run from Broadhhead across the derby area in the first half, beat about 3 men and was about to pull the trigger when he got blocked, had he scored it would've been a Marcus Stewart-type goal. What a signing Broady has been, pretty sure he's helped instill confidence in the rest of the team, listen to how Chaplin talks about him post-match.

And don't forget that Morsy is currently observing Ramadan, which makes his performance even more remarkable.
