Should have gone weeks ago.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

The role of the Cabinet Secretary, Simon "Teflon" Case, in this affair is somewhat dodgy, but he has form.

In this connection, paragaphs 55 to 57 of, and Annex B to, the report are worth reading.

The important question s though, is what was expected in return for this 'loan'.

A lowly copper would be questioned if he was 'financially obliged' (unless he/she was in the Met), yet here we have yet another example of the country's PM accepting money, by the back door.

What was behind Putins £160,000 gift to Johnson, or the £1.8 m gifts to the Tory Party ? Nothing expected in return, just money handed over out of the goodness of his heart ?

From a friend whose wife works as a civil servant, I am told that rules are quite clear. Gifts such as chocolates, flowers, diaries could be accepted but had to be declared. Invitations to such things as sporting events are strictly forbidden, and money just didn't enter into it.

Yet here we have a PM taking 'donations' like he was Bob Geldof appealing for Band Aid.
