‘It is a total scandal, the dividend pay-outs, the debt taken on and customers paying the price. We are cautious about nationalisation of the water companies. And why are we cautious of it?
Because it would involve… billions of pounds of public money being given to the water companies’ shareholders who have already made a big bonanza.'

I wonder how much that would be if the dividends they have received were deducted from the share price?

They’ve not paid external shareholders a dividend in 5 years, so it’s not even benefited pension funds. So the question is, where has all the money gone….

According to sky news £50bn has been paid in dividends and bonuses since privatisation.

Edit £50.6 Bn is the total paid out by all water companies.

Completely agree. The argument will be "but pension funds" or something. It's almost like we have locked ourselves in a prison cell of our own making.
But who even has a pension fund nowadays anyway!!

To be honest, pensions are likely to prove useless to a lot of people anyway, given the trajectory we are on. There will not be a civil society where the elderly, weak or vulnerable will be able to avoid the violence and conflict of the breakdown of society and law and order, no matter how much 'wealth' they think they've piled up safely. Much better to totally restructure the socio-economic landscape now and try to create a future where retirees can live in a dynamic, peaceful and co-operative environment.

To Kemble Water, their Australian parent company by the looks of it, as they haven't been paying dividends to external shareholders but they have been paying them to the parent company.
