Very interesting interview with the writer/poet Ben Okri on R4 tonight where he’s talking about human psyche in relation to this slowly unfolding disaster. Well worth digging out on catch up. There’s a general rise in the use of stories (or narratives of climate change, as practitioners call it) to improve awareness of what’s going on and it does seem to cut through where facts don’t (mirrors the Brexit referendum if you think about it - the emotive message was more powerful than the more factual but boring one). Btw, that was Okri’s main solution: increasing awareness, rather than consciousness of facts. And love will prevail (which is probably true - we defend things we love when they are threatened. Sounds a bit ‘woo’, but I think his is an important message. Edit - he was part of tonight’s Front Row https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001ngcm [Post edited 4 Jul 2023 20:50]
