In the face of massively rising costs for everyone, another energy company has made record profits in the last year.

Energy prices are set by The Government, these high profits were known to The Government when they allowed the energy companies to raise the charges for energy. You can't blame EON or any of the other energy companies for these, they were given the green light to go ahead and keep charges high for this exact reason.

That’s effectively the basis of our economy.

Socialise the costs and privatise the resulting increased profits. And financialise everything in between. It’s almost like the underlying model is not in the interests of the people of the UK but those at the top or the ones eagerly climbing the pole.

A fundamental change in direction is required to get the balance right. Which of course is why that can’t be allowed to happen.

Agree with your sentiment. Though most of that profit is for operations in other territories, around a quarter of that profit was earned in the UK and therefore not taxable/relevant here. Still a considerable amount, but slightly disingenuous headline reporting in order to provoke outrage.

As an aside the way electricity rates are calculated is an absolute stitch up.
