For fans posting reactive stuff about needing a new defence when we concede (admittedly sometimes sloppy or unlucky) goals - Home W D L F A 5 0 1 19 11 Away W D L F A 4 1 0 6 2 If you can't see the pattern and/or don't understand the point, you are a negative sausage with a) completely unrealistic expectations or b) just want to complain about something. Or both. Saying that, are we really that sloppy? What are the wider stats for goals against at home? Are teams being very clinical? What's the oppo xg? And yeh, of course we can improve, in every area. The comments about being humble are so important, and that's for us supporters and fans too.

Is this a wider point, or for my benefit? It feels like the latter, so I'll respond. I made reference to a weird half of football, acknowledged some great goals, interspersed with chances that should have been taken (Hirsts specifically) and commented that the centre of our defence looked poor in that first half, nothing more, nothing less. If people stopped reading their own bias into what other people have written, this place would be a lot less fractious and then of course, there's those who just want to take any opportunity to verbally abuse others regardless of what they've written and then make things up in effort to justify their actions, it's the same group every week for me, not hard to spot. In the past, they have at least attempted to make some sort of effort to relate the insult to their differing football views, but Saturday, there was just abuse for the sake of it. In terms of stats, there are a multitude of patterns visible and people see different things, that does not make any persons view more, or less valuable than anybody elses. Personally, I don't look at stats to give myself a pat on the back and I know McK doesn't either. A lot of coaches/managers use the stats to understand where vulnerabilities lie within their own team and staff and players alike will not be very happy with conceding over 2 goals a game at home, on average. Got work to do, so won't be responding for the rest of the day.

Nothing in my post warrants it. "A lot of coaches/managers use the stats to understand where vulnerabilities lie within their own team and staff and players alike will not be very happy with conceding over 2 goals a game at home, on average." I agree and wrote as much. "In terms of stats, there are a multitude of patterns visible and people see different things, that does not make any persons view more, or less valuable than anybody elses. Personally, I don't look at stats to give myself a pat on the back and I know McK doesn't either." What are the patterns in those stats that say something different to the fact we play more gung ho at home, but away we've conceded two goals in five games? I.e. it's the tactics and systems rather than the defenders per se. Reminds me of a Stewart Lee story where he's arguing with someone who responds "well, you can prove anything with facts."
