A quick heads up GB play the springboks for the last spot at the olympics in the sevens (mens) in 30 mins.
It would feel wrong not to have us there as we invented the game...grumble grumble...but good too for the spread of the game beyond normal traditional borders.

It looks like GB lost 14-5 to the Springboks and so don't qualify.

I played 7s when I was younger, and there is a hell of a lot of pitch to cover, with wild swings in score being commonplace in my experience.

It makes me wonder whether there would be a future for a 10s game which would be something of a compromise between 7s and the 15 man game, and might suit (as 7s does) the fitter and less bulky players.

I imagine the games would last longer than 7s, and as such might we a welcome and attractive addition at club rugby level, just like T20 in cricket.

Of course, there would be a danger of this morphing into rugby league, but with only 10 players that ought to make it a more open game but not as open as 7s..
