Not bad fee wise so far is it 20:06 - Jul 12 with 1149 viewsFrimleyBlue

10 mill of this accounts year spent on hutch. Johnson and greaves.

Obv wages to go ontop of that. But solely looking at transfer fees that ain't a bad start

Less I think. Omari and Greaves are both on 5 year deals, so more like £7m amortised to this years numbers by way of transfer fees. With signing on fee & agents etc probably in the region of £10m though.

There’s plenty of headroom. Really interested to see who we sign in the midfield, think Morsy will certainly need legs around him and can’t see Taylor or Luongo starting too many games personally. Downes would be a great signing but I expect he’ll go to Southampton if West Ham don’t want him.

I wonder if Downes is still a possibility. You'd think he'd have gone to Southampton already if that move was to happen. Maybe wishful thinking.

Southampton seem to be taking quite a conservative / cautious approach to signings so far.

Could do. I wonder if he might even stay at West Ham. Change in manager there throws that up in the air a bit I imagine, would think he’ll want to run the rule over him in pre season and maybe it’s a deal that would get done later in the window, wherever he goes. Had Moyes stayed I think Downes might’ve left already.

Yep, good point.

Talking of West Ham, I think they may struggle next season under Lopetegui. One decent season in Seville on his cv and has done nothing since, and not much before.

I think the lack of a midfield link says to me we have a small short list in this area and will pick our moment carefully. Maybe a euro player of some kind? I dunno. Its a massive if not most important signing in a positional sense to get right. It can make or break our efforts in the prem if we don't get that pivot spot on.

It’s got real Mick BCWYWF vibes hasn’t it.

I think they’ll probably have too much quality to be sucked in to any real danger, but I agree it’s potentially quite an underwhelming appointment and change for the sake of change. Think Moyes just got a bit stale but there’s no doubt he got them decent results.

I’d be happy with Downes, but maybe we can even do better. We’ve not done a lot of looking at the European market apparently. I remember back when Swansea were new boys in the PL, Laudrup mentioned some bloke called Michu that he reckoned was ideally suited to the PL. They only paid €2M if I remember correctly. The guy was unplayable and ripped the league apart. Unfortunately his ankles gave out after 15 months, but the sky was the limit in that time. We may be able to find a CM version of him.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Agree about the importance of it. When you consider we’ve now got Hirst, Hutchinson, Broadhead, Chaplin, Burns and likely Delap, we’re looking at 4 from 6 there. No doubt we will add 1 or 2 that’ll push the likes of Broadhead down the pecking order, but we’re in a good spot. Defensively the same, barring some cover for Davis.

GK is obviously a problem area at the moment, but aside from that it’s really those central roles that need careful recruitment. Morsy probably starts, but I can’t see Taylor or Luongo getting too many minutes at that level. I’d argue we need 2 more, and the ask should be to sign players that make Morsy droppable, that has to be the aim really.
