with a couple of additions,” he said. “But we had a style, a freshness, an energy - young talent and hungry players who hadn’t quite made it elsewhere.”

I think the difference is that squad had been fighting at the top of the Championship for five years. It was honed and ready. This one has come straight through the Championship from League One, plus the Premier League is a very different prospect compared to 2000. Plus it all went wrong in 2001 when we splashed out (relatively speaking).

We should not be afraid, but this is going to be tough - especially adjusting to the number of losses compared to the past two seasons.

Oh, I know - was a bit tongue in cheek, but we can dream!

Exactly, the squad improved year on year under Burley as did the football we played. McK has managed to shorten that process but it means the squad has some catching up to do.

If we come out of this premier league experience as a better club, then i will be ok with it whatever happens.

We need to use this as a platform to catch up with other clubs who we've been left behind by in the last 20 odd years.

No doubt McKenna wants more than the above which is great, but it's going to be a tough year.

Exactly - the way I see it, with the potential development of the signings we’ve made (particularly under McKenna’s tutelage), worst case scenario is we start next season as a very strong, exciting Championship side.

Best case? Taking on Inter in the Champions League!

There is a massive mindset shift to manage emotions of losses this season. Appreciating the victories. Overreaction on the negative will undo a lot of good work, it will erode goodwill that’s been built up.

Focus on the journey, the new grounds, the improvements our players will undoubtedly make through the season, the experience of being underdogs at home. It’s back to one game at a time and blocking out constant attention of those quick to point to short comings. Of which there will likely be many more than we’ve become used to.

Survival has to be the first big milestone but that could be many months away, then what will be will be. If things don’t go our way, it will not be through lack of effort by owners, coaches, players, and supporters should go that extra mile as they have done each season over the last years.

We will be in a better position come what may compared to last time we finished a PL season.
