Possibly a niche subject, though I get a lot of stuff through Bandcamp.
I wanted to buy recently released vinyl from a class act I have followed for years. Vinyl was minimum price 25 dollars. I expect to pay shipping and 20% VAT. Thats what it says on the order screen. But on checkout, its way more. The tax is nearer 50% than 20.
Anyone understand why this is?
I ended up checking Amazon instead, and getting it for a fraction of the cost. Which is just wrong. |  | | |  |

You have to fix shipping on there - and some artists use a flat international rate. I’ve sold on there before and often lose lots of money after their cut etc |  |

Yeah, that international shipping cost factor is a killer on there.
I buy a lot of music on there, but if it's from a US act I'll only ever buy digital releases, as it's hard to justify paying more than the cost of the music for postage! |  |

Agree about the shipping. But what I found is the tax on the actual product rocketed as well between selection page and check out.
My $25 selection becomes $36. Vat would account for less than half that tax. Should be duty free under 40 quid anyway I think, but duty is only a few percent on a record.
The shipping is another $30. I might have swallowed that, were it not for the hike in price as well.
Looks like the vat is added to the shipping too, but applied to the product which explains the very high apparent tax charge.

Forgot to reply to that tax point - I don't recall ever seeing that myself on the few import bits that I have got, though may have missed it as it doesn't show the tax element until the last stage of the purchase. | |
