I'm confused by VAR for those two incidents. 14:28 - Dec 8 with 1016 viewsDublinBlue84

50/50 in the box and they rule a goal out.

Then a penalty review because someone made a hash of the advantage and missed. If you get the advantage and miss, why should it come back to a penalty?

Didn't realise the rule was now, you get an advantage and if you make a hash of it, you then can get a penalty or a free kick.

I thought it's either advantage or a free kick, not if the first one doesn't help you, you get the second.

Whole thing is a joke.

Dont see a problem on that tbh. There would almost never be an advantage given for a penalty. I dont think thats what happened.

The referee literally signalled advantage with his hands.

At that point, it should NEVER go back to VAR as it's re-refeering the match where a decision that it is a foul has already been made and a decision has been made and we were told VAR is not allowed to get involved in such situations.

It looked like he gave advantage to me and the commentary team on Optus both agreed it was as well.

You never give advantage for a pen, unless someone is about to pass it into an open goal.

VAR didn't rule the goal out did it? The referee disallowed it on the pitch and VAR didn't get him to review that decision.

Correct. But either way, it was wrong.
