What are the rules on when the half-time or full-time whistle goes? 20:52 - Dec 26 with 999 viewsTheBoyBlue

I've always thought that it blows when it blows, no matter what stage of the game, even if the ball is about to cross the goal line. Yet there's been a few teams complaining about it blowing when they're in an attacking position, including Liverpool just now. Has the rule changed in some way, or is this just footballers complaining about anything that doesn't advantage them again?

I’m not aware of any specific rule/law that determines when or when not the ref should blow. There may be something in the explanatory notes they seem to issue every year. Players have always complained if they think the ref has stopped an attack. We used to when I played years ago.

Very rarely blown when an attacking side is in possession in the final third during a meaningful attack.

Seems to be an unwritten rule
