Play Davis and Townsend? 02:01 - Feb 16 with 734 viewsBlue_In_Boston

What's peoples thoughts on playing Townsend with Lief in front of him? Attacking threat and assists, great engine, and more solid down that left hand side that has been a weak spot and exploited at this level with Davis pushing so far up.

If we continue to play with two in CM then it is what I would do.

However the signings of both Philogene and Enciso suggest it is not something that Kieran is going to do.

Need the attacking inside LM to create the space.

No.

I've said this numerous times before.

Davis is so effective as an attacking threat because his runs are from so deep. They are difficult to pick up.

Play him further forward and he won't have the same space and time to work with. Much easier to mark.

He's also not able to beat a player, like Broady can. He can't cut inside as effectively either. He's not an attacking midfielder or winger. In that role he will be far less effective.

What we might see is Townsend used away when we want to be a tad more defensive and Davis used at home or in games where we can be more expansive.

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...
Poll: As things stand, how confident are you we will get promoted this season?

I agree with all that, but that does leave us vulnerable down the left hand side.

Everything is a balancing act, it's no good creating 5 goals with that threat from Davis if you concede 7 with him caught upfield and people in behind. A bit like playing out from the bank, thankfully we've become cleverer at that, when to and when not.
