Kieran got that wrong tonight 22:49 - Feb 26 with 470 viewsMullet

Just got in and being crammed into a tram the United (nations) fans wasn’t as irritating as the lie players and fans giving it the biggun in the 96th minute. Running down the clock in the corner, roaring and waving like they were the scrappy underdogs.

The stewarding tonight was pathetic. We missed kick off by a minute as they kept us in the rain and slowed down searches, making people turn round, wanding them again and again etc to prove a point or something.

But that aside.

We were presented two golden opportunities with the goal and the red card. We were unlucky that the first goal came from a free kick that was never a foul. But set pieces seemingly unchecked did us in. That maguire one was criminal.

But it summed up what was missing tonight collective responsibility. Individuals played well, we had the advantage but we didn’t press it. No one really stood up and said I’ll beat my man, I’ll take that shot for fear of turning possession over and getting caught on the break.

After spurs you’d think sometimes a long cross field ball would have completely ripped apart a team whose only saving grace is their ability to sit rigidly in shape. But we played some great football 15-20 yards too far from the goal.

For me, the subs weren’t necessarily bad. We don’t know how fit or injured certain individuals were but we moved to attacking wing backs and two strikers and didn’t overload them, run at them or try to cause chaos in the box with a wet surface and players on the back foot.

It doesn’t matter who you are playing or where, in game that mentality has to be there and I just didn’t see it. You can’t win games with dogma alone. Especially when we are such disadvantage as it is.

The light of closing the gap went out pretty quickly in the heavy rain - this will be one of a handful of games, rather than individual moments we will look back on in years to come.
