Effie Defrin, Israel’s chief military spokesperson, said the planned offensive would include “moving most of the population of the Gaza Strip … to protect them”. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, said the “population will be moved, for its own protection” in a video posted on social media, but gave no further details. Smotrich, speaking to a conference on Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank, went further, making clear that many Palestinians would be driven out of the territory altogether, as part of a scorched earth offensive. “Gaza will be entirely destroyed, civilians will be sent to ... the south to a humanitarian zone without Hamas or terrorism, and from there they will start to leave in great numbers to third countries,” the minister said.

I was denied entry in the 90,s during the time of that right wing over fellattiod entry denier Clinton. I'm still taking it well and have completely forgiven the entire country for their error.. |
These days they probably ask "are you, or have you ever been, a member of the Conservative Party?", and if you say yes, they deny you entry for being too much of a liberal. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

If this happens without serious opposition Labour will lose my vote for the foreseeable future. Shocking and disgraceful that that is being allowed to happen, on news today no food or supplies entered Gaza for 3 months.

That has been the plan for a long time. October 7th gave the Israelis an opportunity to depopulate Gaza once and for all. This will no doubt soon lead to a third Intifada, giving Israel the excuse to carry out the same in the West Bank.

Leaving aside other war crimes, Israel is in clear breach of various provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention on Civilians, but the government doesn't call it out and merely says it is a matter for the international courts. Or it says that it doesn't agree with what Israel is doing. Take this provision as an example. "Occupying powers are to provide food and medical supplies as necessary to the population and maintain medical and public health facilities. When that is not possible, they are to facilitate relief shipments by impartial humanitarian organizations such as the ICRC. Red Cross or other impartial humanitarian relief organizations authorized by the parties to the conflict are to be allowed to continue their activities." [Post edited 6 May 20:18]

The Yahoo doing his bit for the hostages again. on 22:43 - May 6 with 1319 views | Whos_blue | Did anyone catch the piece on BBC news tonight? Just horrific, sickening and heartbreaking. It beggars belief that so few senior policians, not just in the UK, but around the world are not calling this out now. What the Israeli state are doing is reprehensible. This has long since passed any justifiable retribution for the October attacks. This has to stop, but with the major nations seemingly happy to turn a blind eye and parrot the line about Israel's right to protect itself, Palestinians are becoming more and more dehumanised. And to think some politicians have accused those of campaigning about this are dismissed as nothing more than supporting a terrorist organisation. Just depressing.

It annoys me that the media are so lame about this. “Raiding fears of ethnic cleansing”. Er hello, how much more evidence do you need FFS!? Call it for what it is - the latest development in the genocide being carried out by the war criminals in the Israeli Government.

Not great numbers, but maybe with the currently reported dissatisfaction among Labour MPs, a swell of support may grow. We can only live in hope. You can pretty much guaruntee KB won't be using any of her 6 questions at PMQs to raise the matter. Wow. Their lack of self awareness regarding starving people is quite scary. There may be no barbed wire and gun towers ( debatable ) but Gaza is definitely a concentration camp. [Post edited 11 May 9:48]

The Yahoo doing his bit for the hostages again. on 09:23 - May 11 with 600 views | DJR | Not surprisingly, this didn't ger much publicity, outside the pages of the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/09/israel-committing-genocide-in-gaza Israel committing genocide in Gaza, says EU’s former top diplomat Josep Borrell also criticises EU response to what he calls largest ethnic cleansing operation since second world war The former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has launched a blistering attack on Israel, accusing its government of committing genocide in Gaza and “carrying out the largest ethnic-cleansing operation since the end of the second world war in order to create a splendid holiday destination”. Borrell, a former Spanish foreign minister who served as the EU’s top diplomat from 2019 to 2024, and president of the European parliament from 2004 to 2007, also criticised the bloc’s failure to use all the means at its disposal to influence Israel, saying expressions of regret were simply not enough. As he collected the Charles V European award in front of dignitaries including King Felipe in south-west Spain on Friday, Borrell said the horrors Israel had suffered in the Hamas attacks on 7 October 2023 could not justify the horrors it had subsequently inflicted on Gaza. “We’re facing the largest ethnic cleansing operation since the end of the second world war in order to create a splendid holiday destination once all the millions of tonnes of rubble have been cleared from Gaza and the Palestinians have died or gone away,” he said in a characteristically direct speech. The former diplomat accused Israel of violating all the rules of conflict and of using the starvation of Gaza’s civilian population as a “weapon of war”. “Three times more explosive power has been dropped on Gaza than was used in the Hiroshima bomb,” he said. “And for months now, nothing has been getting into Gaza. Nothing: no water, no food, no electricity, no fuel, no medical services. That’s what [Benjamin] Netanyau’s ministers have said and it’s what they’ve done.” He added: “We all know what’s going on there, and we’ve all heard the objectives stated by Netanyau’s ministers, which are clear declarations of genocidal intent. Seldom have I heard the leader of a state so clearly outline a plan that fits the legal definition of genocide.” Borrell went on to take Europe to task for shirking its moral and humanitarian responsibilities over Gaza. “Europe has the capacity and the means not only to protest against what is going on but also to influence [Israel’s] conduct,” he said. “But it is not doing so. We supply half the bombs that are falling on Gaza. If we really believe that too many people are dying, then the natural response would be to supply fewer weapons and to use the lever of the association agreement to demand that international humanitarian law is respected, instead of just lamenting that that isn’t happening.” [Post edited 11 May 9:28]

Unjustified accusations of antisemitism have also been pretty widespread. Steve Bell was sacked from the Guardian early on for a supposed anti-semitic cartoon, and from recollection only Fraser Nelson came to his defence. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/in-defence-of-steve-bell/
