I think Broadhead goes regardless of what happens with Omari as the money is too good. So we could potentially need 2 x 10s. Plus two CMs. Plus a striker assuming Ali stays, if not 2 strikers.

Looks like it's going to be a bit of a rush come the close or the window. We've got enough strength in the squad generally but CM and ST does worry me. One injury away from a real issue.

We are two CMs and at least one striker short for sure. And I wouldn't countenance Omari going anywhere until we know how serious the Philogene injury is. If you lost him, Broadhead and Omari, suddenly your options are:

Chaplin
Ogbene (off the back of a serious injury)
Clarke
Szmodics

All of a sudden it does feel like there's lots to do...

I've been pretty sanguine about the whole transfer window, but now that we're just a few days away from the start of the season and only 2 senior signings have been made... I'm getting a bit twitchy myself.

It really is ridiculous that they leave the window open until the end of Aug. 1st Aug would make so much more sense as PL and EFL clubs would know exactly where they stand before a ball has been kicked.

I imagine we are in the same position as we were with Hackney/Cajuste for a few others - Azon seems like he is another one. Deal maybe lined up but subject to nothing better being on the table for the player. People might lot like it but that seems to be the reality if you want to do good business for good players that are above your station.

I just think Omari is so good that you have to keep him in our position.

I think the Azon deal will come to a head today/tomorrow. Reports in Valencia say Azon and Como have given them today to get their ducks in a row or he'll come here instead.

Find Azon situation strange,

Only signed for Como, on 4 year contract, February 2025.;Doesn’t appear to have played any games. Perhaps he doesn’t like pasta.

Out of interest, does anyone know what the prognosis is for young Wesley Burns?

Agree it does look a strange one on the surface. But clubs like Como will upgrade their team by player trading, just like us. They may have felt he was too cheap to turn down in the January window.

He looks like he'd suit the physical nature of the Championship. Very much in the Fotis Ioannidis mould who we were prepared to bid £20m+ for 12 months ago...

He was injured but I've read reports saying he's had a good pre-season. Valencia wanted to sign him in January but are broke. They're back in for him now but still broke.

I agree, seems more of a issue around our own squad depth than the deal with Wrexham not being to our liking and as you say Omari will likely leave.

Realistically I think we are looking at a fullback now with the Clarke/ Townsend injuries probably predominately left sided. That left back role is vital to the way the team plays.

I have us also loaning out Barbrook/ Humphreys/ Ali again so I think we probably need the following ...

2 X CM (+ Cajuste)
2 X ST
1 x LB
2 X RW/ LW

Agreed. Difficult to turn down with a year left. And I'm not sure KM has ever been that convinced. Always thought Omari staying was more important than HH coming in, so was gutted to hear the news from Sat. Still live in hope KM can persuade him to commit to another year via the old arm round the shoulder. Also still think Cajuste will come to us over Saudi. Which will soften the HH blow. I also sense there will be a big name curveball in there somewhere this week. Gonna be an interesting few days....

A lot of work to do i'd say, some are trying to play down the amount of business we still need to do but i'd say we could need up to 7 more. We could even need another left back if the injury to Townsend is a bad as being reported.

Potentially it is...

1 x left back
2 x centre mid
2 x attacking mid
1 x striker ( possibly 2 if AAH goes )

Broady is a tricky one because unless he signs a new contract ( unlikely ) then we pretty much have to accept the Wrexham offer. I would imagine there may be a gentlemans agreement with him that we will let him go when we get a replacement. The injury to JP couldn't have come at a worse time either in regards to this situation.

With Omari, I think we need to be prepared to play hardball with him if needs be and do primarily what is best for the club. If we get the fee we want AND secure a suitable replacement then by all means let him go, but we should not be leaving ourselves short just to grant him his wishes. People have mentioned Gnonto at Leeds and it's a good example, Leeds held firm, the player eventually knuckled down and he is now back in the EPL again.

Of course we dont want conflict with Omari but he needs to understand and appreciate the clubs position. I have every confidence in KM and MA to handle this situation appropriately.

In terms of attacking midfielders, we currently have Ogbene, Burns, Chaplin, Szmodics, Hutch, Broadhead, Clarke, and Philogene. Two of those are carrying injuries but that's why you have a squad. If we lose both Broadhead and Hutch then we probably need to bring one in to give us sufficient depth but so far neither of them have left. We definitely need two more in centre midfield and another striker, if Townsend is out for a long time then we now need a back up left back. Otherwise any further signings are replacements if people leave.

If both leave we are one injury away from being seriously seriously light and thats discounting the Philogene injury and the fact that Ogbene last played competitive footy in October ...

RW - Ogbene
10 - Szmodics/ Chaplin
LW - Philogene/ Clarke

We can't wait for one or either to leave. We need reinforcements before and we certainly would need more than one.

Lets remember the impact it had on the team when Wes Burns got injured in the latter stages of the 24/25 season and we had to run with make shift winger in Jackson.

This year, we have money, serious money for the champ, we don't need to put ourselves in a situation where that could happen again.

A LOT of work to do - we've been down since February, there's now 4 days until our season starts how are we still scrambling round for a CM and ST? This latest Akpom interest? Why at the last second as he's about to move to Brum when he's been available all summer?

We have 8 players for those roles currently. We can't sign two more in case Omari and Broadhead leave. We've already got too many players for a 25 man squad. Let's have some realism.

We won't sign two more in case they leave, we will do it because they are leaving. The EADT have already reported that everything has been agreed with Wrexham, they are just waiting on Ipswich to sign it off.

You've really got 4 known and guaranteed early season contributors in Clarke, Philogene, Szmodics & Chappers. The other 4 are returning from major operations or are possible leavers.

A lot of work to do I would suggest.

Keeper and defence relatively sorted, but otherwise there's a number of question marks. Matusiwa + who? Omari and Broady both heavily linked with moves away and Philogene now injured. 3 of the real bits of X factor we've got in the squad. Very little help for Hirst as it stands in taking the load up top. Ogbene and Burns coming back from serious injuries.

No new news there but certainly feels like a big few weeks in the context of getting the balance right across the squad. We saw last season how difficult it is to integrate a high level of churn post pre season, hopefully we don't find ourselves in a similar position this season. If we can add 1 in CM and 1 #9 in the short term I'll feel a little better, especially if Philogene's injury isn't too bad. He's got the potential to be massive for us this season.
