Back to work blues 17:09 - Aug 19 with 888 views | RobTheMonk | I've just had two lovely weeks off, back in tomorrow and the blues have set in. My job is fine. Nice people, low pressure, nice perks. I've had this feeling all the way back from school days after the holidays. I'll be fine in a week, always am. Does anyone get similar?

Back to work blues on 17:19 - Aug 19 with 811 views | bsw72 | As a self confessd workaholic, not really - I actually find myself checking in most days while on holiday. I have a great team who can ably cover/manage while I am out, but just like to know all is ok. It does mean that the return to work does not have any of the shock value it used to have walking back in to 100s of emails and backlog.
Back to work blues on 17:30 - Aug 19 with 769 views | MattinLondon | Absolutely yes. Even through I have a well paid job and work with some great people, I do dread going back into the office after being on hols - actually, just after having a nice weekend. I do work with a couple of people who are tied to the office and answer emails and even take calls on their hols which I find strange. But each to their own and all that.

You quit a job that gave you 4 weeks off at once?

Back to work blues on 17:45 - Aug 19 with 708 views | itfckenty | Tbh, no never. I'm back tomorrow and know I'm going to have a back log, but as some have said. I've also got a great team to deal with everything while I'm off. I've worked at my place for 14 years now though, and love the job.
Back to work blues on 17:49 - Aug 19 with 679 views | baxterbasics | I've just been off for a week in Cumbria. Weather was flawless, scenery stunning, had a good climb up Scafell Pike. But with wife, three adult kids and one of their partners joining us, seemed like every day there was some kind of unnecessary drama or stress. Certain members not getting on so well at times. Family life is chaotic. Work is my calm place. Am glad to be back.

Back to work blues on 18:12 - Aug 19 with 611 views | vilanovablue | A little but I really like my job, I tacked an extra day on to my hols this year just to rest a bit before diving back in and it really helped. I'd also driven a 1000 miles in 2 days and knew I'd need a rest from that. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Back to work blues on 18:30 - Aug 19 with 555 views | monkeymagic | Me too, right back to school days. Hate that early September period with the evenings drawing in, Halloween and Bonfire Night being advertised etc. Like you, after a week I’m ok but those first few days are awful : however many times I remind myself that it will soon pass. Strangely, although I am a bit bah humbug, I usually crash about 27th Dec as well, knowing that Xmas is over and spring is way off. Hope this reply helped lift your spirits!

This is why I could never move back. Sept - Thanksgiving is the best time of year in the North East and Midwest. Humidity drops, crisp autumn air but the sun usually remains, sports all weekend if you want it! Not much greyness or depression. Admittedly you'd have to like the other kind of football for this to be relevant but just two weeks to the start of college and 3 weeks to the NFL, happy days! January to March is a different story though.

You are entirely correct about Fall. By far the very best time of year out here. Not even close. But the Jan/Feb comedown definitely hits hard.

Back to work blues on 20:45 - Aug 19 with 338 views | BarcaBlue | Yep, got to the stage where it was having negative effects on the last couple of days of the holiday. It was only really looking back on it that made me realize what was going on. In the end I gave up work, sold my part of the business and moved onto semi-retirement. Wish I'd done it earlier. Hindsight is great as I can see now I was taking Summer holidays earlier each year That was just a small part of the decline in motivation, enjoyment and eventually stress and mental health issues. Easy to say now but I really should have stepped back, reflected a lot more on how I was feeling and definitely acted on it earlier. And probably spoken about it to friends and family.

True, but a holiday is a period of time set aside for festivals or recreation. 95% of the time when I have holiday booked I am using the time recreationally, occasionally dipping into my emails or teams. Gives me the break I need without having a backlog of emails and work to catch up on or work longer days in the run up to get ahead of stuff prior to my time out. I also am pretty lucky that being in a senior role and not having any management lines this side of the Atlantic I tend to be able to work reasonably flexibly, as long as I meet my goals and deliverables. Works well for my mental wellbeing.

Back to work blues on 21:14 - Aug 19 with 252 views | GlasgowBlue | I had a long holiday this year. Longer than I normally take as I hate leaving my business for any length of time. And even when I am on holiday I ask for the figures to be sent to me each day. Was dreading going and couldn't muster any enthusiasm up until the morning we flew. When we landed I completely switched off from work for the first time ever. Had the best holiday of my life. When I got home I dreaded going back to work. 3 weeks later I still miss being away and not enjoying work. Never had that feeling before.
