But bit of an over-reaction to yesterday. I mean, yeah, it wasn’t a fun match by any means, and actually a draw may well have been the right result, but it could easily have turned on, say, Ivan’s overhead kick going in, or Mehmeti’s (who I thought looked our best player) shot hitting the underside of the crossbar and crashing in. (Do appreciate their no. 9 had an easy chance in the first half as well.) Still, a few problems evident again. The right side is underused, whether it’s Egeli or Burns out wide. I think Furlong has got better going forward (and is a very good defender), but wonder if we need more at fullback creatively when teams sit very deep. Or maybe Cajuste could get more involved there. Agree that Cajuste isn’t involved enough, which means we end up going across the back line too much and then down the left. But then he’ll have these 5 minute periods where he’s deadly. Perhaps Jack Clarke is too deep, or too predictable some times with running across midfield? Although of course he is always a threat. And yes, the referee was diabolical. It’s difficult when you have a physical team like Preston, but his attitude seemed to be “I’m not going to be influenced by the crowd or the home team so I’ll be really hard on Ipswich”, which was very strange. And you don’t book Kieran McKenna. [Post edited 1 Feb 8:57]
