Watching the Friday game back again and something noticed in their first goal and oh how different that phase could have been
When Lukic plays the pass to Fatawu... HAD Fatawu managed to get to it first - Lukic was on for the 1-2, this would then have allowed him to drive into space with Emmerson in the position for a pass through the liverpool backline. Don't know if Fatawu was looking to control it rather than pass it and lost the ball because of that choice or if the liverpool player was excellently right up against him when Lukic's pass was played. but that is a moment that is defo one of those fine lines.
2nd goal is Fatawu keeping Isak onside, but go back a few seconds when Isak is frustrated with not having the ball played over the top.... that choice of not passing from Van Dijk for liverpool was pivitol... Scherpen was well positioned to intercept that lofted ball had it been played.
Never noticed both of those things before seeing them again.

They look the same thickness as the lines on a rugby pitch to me  .
I thought Fatawu had a bit of a stinker on Friday. Defensively he looked very suspect and he lacked the outlet we’ve seen from him in the previous games. I don’t know whether the stats back that up. GON has already gone out of his way to manage expectations around him, so I’m not laying into the lad. There’s enough there to think he could be a real handful for defenders (when he has the confidence to take them on). |  |

Don't disagree about those goals, but probably true of any goal ever. The 1st annoyed me in real time, I thought Fatawu was loose and has to be doing better. Kerkez does well having seen it gain, but still annoyed. Scherpen can't get beaten on his near post either. Shit goal.
Not sure the lines were particularly fine on balance though, if they didn't score 2 in the first 9 minutes I suspect they would've found a way in the next 81 had the game state been different.
No disgrace in it of course, they're one of the best for a reason. |  | | |

Then on the other hand a joy to watch,
Friday he was annoying had got the left back booked then spent the whole second half cutting inside instead of showing him the ball and going on the outside,
I'm sure we would have reaped a reward one way or the other if he'd gone on the outside against a defender who couldn't really touch him,

He spent the whole first half cutting inside as well and failing to put in any decent balls with an obviously weak left foot. God knows what all that was about. It was bizarre wasn’t it.
