There are few Town mentions in the weekend's tabloids with just nine days to go before the start of the footballing bring and buy sale that is the transfer window.

A number of Scottish papers cite the Blues' interest in Hibernian defender Rob Jones as one of the reasons why John Collins resigned as manager of the Edinburgh club earlier in the week, but there is little other speculation on where Jim Magilton will be starting to spend Marcus Evans's £12 million.

Magilton watched Jones in action in September and the Blues boss has continued to monitor the 28-year-old.

According to weekend reports, Collins decided to quit his job with the SPL side because he was unhappy that Jones, fellow defender David Murphy and midfielder Guillaume Beuzelin will be leaving the club in January.

Murphy has been linked with a number of big clubs, while Frenchman Beuzelin is out of contract in the summer and also has several admirers.

Jones, who newspaper reports say is paid a relatively low £1,700-a-week with the Hibees, is claimed to be interesting the Blues and Leeds United, who had bids of £400,000 and then £600,000 turned down in the summer.

The most intriguing report of the weekend came from a TWTD Message Boarder who says he witnessed Town coach Charlie Woods having lunch with former Newcastle winger Laurent Robert prior to Saturday's game with Burnley.

Robert, who played under Woods with the Magpies during Sir Bobby Robson's time as manager at St James' Park, is currently available on a free transfer having recently left Spanish side Levante after a fall out.

Earlier this month, the 32-year-old told the French press that clubs in England have expressed an interest in him, in addition to sides in France. The left-sided dead ball expert was subsequently linked with old club Newcastle, however, Sam Allardyce is reported to have denied any interest.

Former boss George Burley tried to bring Robert to Town from PSG in the summer of 2001, however, the £10 million fee and £30,000-a-week wages on offer at Newcastle saw the Blues drop out of the race.
