Slicker Sent Off After Final Whistle
Saturday, 11th Oct 2025 18:51

On-loan Blues keeper Cieran Slicker was shown a red card after the final whistle having recorded his third clean sheet in four games as Barnet won 2-0 at Tranmere in League Two.

The Scotland international, who had already been booked for time-wasting, was dismissed shoving over Rovers defender Cameron Norman in a post-match scuffle.

The 23-year-old, the Bees’ Player of the Month for September, now looks set for a three-match ban if it’s confirmed he was shown a straight red card.

Elsewhere, striker Ash Boatswain scored a debut goal for his loan side Woking, nodding home from a 70th-minute corner to grab a 1-1 FA Cup draw at home to Brackley. The teams meet in a replay on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Macauley Bonne signed for Maldon & Tiptree ahead of their 1-0 FA Cup victory over Flackwell Heath and made his debut as a half-time sub.

Another former Town striker Freddie Sears scored the goal which puts the Jammers in the hat for round one proper with ex-Blues midfielder Anthony Wordsworth also in the squad.

Bonne playing at level 8 now. Crazy suprised when he dropped to Southend.

He may be 23, but his matches for Barnet are his very first league matches...ever. So he's very much an infant, in goalkeeping terms.

Ridiculous from Slicker. Having a fantastic loan so that is just silly. Loans are all about learning though.

I imagine the number of keepers sent off for shoving over a player after a game in professional football is very small. He has not helped himself as this is patently unprofessional behaviour.

I can only think his brain must have taken a temporary leave of absence. If I was the Barnet boss, I'd hit him with a fine too, proportionate to how many matches he does actually miss, for letting his team mates down. Then hopefully he'd learn his lesson, and get back to concentrating on being the really promising keeper he appears to be.

Some of you are needlessly harsh, yes it was daft but he's clearly trying to protect his teammate and just goes in too hard. He'll learn from it and doubtless won't make the same mistake twice, but it came from a good place. Would rather see a bit of fire in a player's belly than be susceptible to being bullied by the opposition.

Maybe depends what he heard the Tranmere guy say. If it was some bigoted comment, for example, then I can understand (though not condone) the reaction of a teammate.

SouperJim, so would I, but during a match, not after it.

Looks like Slicks was surprised at his own strength (or lack thereof of the recipient of the shove) haha.

He's having a great loan spell, shame to have a blemish like this but hopefully he'll use it as a chance to grow
