Town have confirmed that former coach John Gorman is to return to the Blues as assistant manager. The paperwork is currently being finalised but Gorman, 59, should be on the bench for Saturday's FA Cup third round tie against Chesterfield.

Reports regarding Gorman's return to Portman Road first appeared in the national press over the weekend and chief executive Derek Bowden confirmed the appointment on the club site this evening: "Jim has been speaking to John over the last few weeks and it's all been agreed.

"It's only a case of finalising the paperwork now, which should be done on Wednesday and then John will be with us as assistant manager."

Gorman was previously with the Blues in 1998/99 when he worked alongside then-manager George Burley and while Jim Magilton was a member of the playing staff.

Most recently Gorman has been working at the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain. Gorman has been at Playford Road this week and has already met the players and the rest of the coaching staff.
