![]() Monday, 12th Jan 2009 16:15 Town are reported to have offered central defender Alex Bruce a new two-year contract. Bruce's current terms are up at the end of the season and the 24-year-old has recently been linked with Leeds, Fiorentina, Napoli, Genoa, Norwich, Burnley and Preston. The Blues have met with Bruce's agent on a number of occasions since the summer but no deal had previously been offered. However, chief executive Derek Bowden told TWTD in November that this didn't mean a new contract wouldn't be ultimately be forthcoming: â€ÂNo contract has been offered, that doesn't mean there won't be, but there's no contract offered at this point in time. "We've had talks with his agent and with Alex and at the moment we haven't reached an agreement.†Meanwhile, boss Jim Magilton has challenged Danny Haynes to replicate Saturday's display against Sheffield Wednesday on a more regular basis: "I was very pleased with Danny's performance at the weekend. "His work ethic throughout the game was excellent and at one stage he was the covering man when Sheffield broke through and he came to our rescue on that occasion. "He deserves credit for his performance and hopefully it is the start of something for him. There is no doubting his ability and his pace but we need to see consistency in his play. "That is the challenge for him, to show that quality on a regular basis. If he does that he will play games here. I have always felt that there is an opportunity for him here and that has not changed."
