Boss Roy Keane felt he saw the best and worst of Town during the 2-1 victory over Coventry City at Portman Road. The Blues put in a decent first half display, but faded after the break.

Keane said: "I think today's performance probably summed up the team and the season. There was some good stuff and some bad stuff.

"In the first half we were very good. We looked capable of scoring goals and if we had got a third one then it was game over.

"But in the second half we were not so good. We needed to show more composure and keep the ball better.

"We scored three last week and two this week, but we need to make sure we get it right at both ends and that is something we have to look at."

Keane felt his side's performance dropped after Coventry pulled a goal back through Leon Best: "After they scored we lost a little bit of composure and stopped doing the basics."

The Irishman, who feels he has learnt a fair bit about his squad in his 10 days in charge, says he is determined the Blues won't end next season in ninth position: "If you know anything about football, there's a big challenge ahead.

"This time next year we don't want to be walking on to the pitch, finishing eighth or ninth, applauding the fans."

Keane says he expects Spurs loanee Giovani Dos Santos to be playing elsewhere next season: "I will be planning ahead without Gio. I think it's fairly unrealistic that we can get him to the club. I think he will be playing at a higher level."

The new Town manager also reiterated that decisions will be made on the 13 out of contract players in the days to come: "We have focused on the game this week. I have spoken to some of the lads and will speak to everyone over the next few days and then move on from there."

The Blues boss is also to make a decision on the club's pre-season tour plans.

Despite his criticism of the second half display, Keane was pleased to have won: "I sound like we've lost the game 4-0. Credit to the players, we won 2-1. We do look like we are capable of scoring goals."

Coventry boss Chris Coleman was glad his side didn't go to pieces after Town's two quick first half goals: "We knew it was going to be tough, obviously with Ipswich having a new manager with a big reputation.

"They are coming on the back of a 3-0 win at Cardiff and then we lose two goals in a short space of time. I thought we could have collapsed, but we didn't.

"I thought the lads did well. We came back. We should have scored more goals, really. They had one or two situations where they defended well.”
