Town sent a scout to watch last night's European U21 Championships game between Sweden and Belarus in Malmo, which the hosts won 5-1.

According to reports in the Swedish press, the Blues were one of 80 clubs from all around Europe who requested tickets for the game.

Town's interest is most likely to have focused on Swedish players rather than their opposition with Belarus not part of the EU and work permits therefore hard to obtain for non-full internationals.

Swedish TWTD Message Boarder Ginola says there are a number of players in his country's U21 side who might have caught the eye: "I suppose we will have taken notice of Rasmus Bengtsson, a central defender from Trelleborg, and Marcus Berg, a striker who plays for Groningen in Holland and who scored three goals in yesterday's game. They would both be rather expensive, but are extremely exciting prospects.

"On top of those two, I think we also should keep an eye on Robin Söder, another striker, although he didn´t play yesterday but is in the squad.”

Ginola also wonders whether Roy Keane may show interest in one of his former Sunderland players now playing back in Sweden: "Another interesting player is Tobias Hysen, the left midfielder that Roy brought to Sunderland about two or three years ago.

"At the time he couldn´t really find a starting place and moved back to Sweden again. He has now really found his feet and is the top scorer in the highest Swedish league, which is about Championship level.

"He is a year or so too old for the U21s, but it would be interesting to know on what terms he was with Roy Keane when he left Sunderland.”

Last week, Town's head of football development Bryan Klug was reported to be at the Toulon U21 tournament where Chilean striker Eduardo Vargas is said to have caught his eye.

The Sweden-Belarus game is unlikely to be the only one watched by Town representatives at the tournament which runs until June 29th.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have been linked with Town target Damien Delaney. The left-back is one of three QPR players reportedly being targeted by the Magpies, along with Dexter Blackstock and Fitz Hall.
