Blue Action Asking For Donations For Derby Tifo Tuesday, 17th Jun 2025 12:10 Town independent supporters group Blue Action have set up a GoFundMe page to raise cash for a tifo to be displayed at the home derby with Norwich City in the new season.
Blue Action was formed at the start of the 2018/19 season with the aim of improving the atmosphere at home games with their tifos, banners, coach greetings, stickers, badges and T-shirts subsequently having become a familiar sight at Portman Road.
At the Liverpool game at the start of last season, their tifo as the players emerged from the tunnel (pictured above) proved controversial with some fans complaining that their view of what they felt was a significant moment had been obscured.
As a result, there were no more at games during 2024/25 but in a statement Blue Action say they will be returning in the new season, at the opening home match and for the visit of the Canaries.
For the latter, they are asking for funds from their fellow supporters. Their GoFundMe page can be found here.

I appreciate the work you do and the atmosphere you create. I wonder if we should treat the Norwich match a little more like a usual match next season though. A better atmosphere is incredible, but I think the massive pre-match crowd meeting the bus on the way in added a bit too much pressure for the players.

BulgarianBlue - I'm sorry I can't agree with your point at all. We battered them that day and they got away with it! I'm not buying that players who aspire to play at the highest level face too much pressure at all, get used to it I say it'll stand you for the future if we go up again!

I don’t like these things, if they spoil one persons prematch then that’s one too many. People pay to watch games which include match build up! Before going ahead with this there should be a poll. I wouldn’t be happy if one of these were ruining my prematch enjoyment!

Too much pressure. We need elite executives, elite players, and elite supporters. With a growth mentality, culture, and traits that are ‘the best in class’. It’s about winning, it’s about being better than the rest, it’s about success, and creating a club and culture that reflects those values. It’s not about a culture where failure is ok, normal, accepted, and where players and managers come to take the money, and have a lively time in sleepy Suffolk. We’ve been there. Done that. We want a mindset that responds to adversity, the mi es towards it (hat happened to that) and thrives and responds to it by lifting each other up, and running through walls ‘together’ This weak as water, it’s ok to fail, ‘well at least you tried’ mentality, for the best paid professionals in our history, and some of the best laid in any sport, anywhere in the world. Is so poor. We get the culture we build, we expect, and we normalise. Normalising failure, accepting the EFL as where we should be, and big derby games as ‘just another game’ isn’t where our aspirations should be. It’s an opportunity, for a club with significant financial leverage and parachute money, to dominate and make a statement against a club that did precisely that to us for over a decade. We should want pressure, we should want a unique atmosphere, we should want to run rings around them like they’ve never experienced for decades against us. We don’t want, need, or aspire to have highly paid people at the club, who don’t share those desires and aspirations .., because they likely aren’t going to make us successful if they crumble at the site of some blie pyro. The players and staff we want, will be excited, motivated, and salivating at the prospect of such an atmosphere. I don’t think Chaplin, Morsy, Hirst, O’Shea, Wolf, Leif etc will shrink.., we probably do need more of that mindset though .., not even less. If we’re not careful, we’re heading towards being a seriously soft touch of a club (again) with expensive players (it’s too long a list to name) who are here for the wrong reasons. We need to see ourselves as a top elite club, or how will anyone else, including the players.

Dissboyitfc. Totally agree. Know there were loads of disappointed fans at the Liverpool game, who wanted to be able to enjoy watching the team come out for our 1st pl game for many years. That was taken away from them, having that draped down blocking their view. I'm all for any displays of support and loyalty to the team. But not at the expense of other fans enjoyment of the moment. So yer, by all means display something like that, but make it so its not so deep, blocking the view of other fans.

What an absolute waste of money - I was one of those who were really pissed off at the Liverpool match for having the moment spoilt. Perhaps buy some decent flags?

In case there are more of you out there like me who had no idea what TIFO means... TIFO stands for: "Tifosi" – an Italian word meaning "fans" or "supporters." A TIFO is a large, coordinated visual display (often a banner, choreographed card display, or flags) used by sports fans—especially in football (soccer)—to support their team. It's typically held up just before or during a match, often covering entire sections of the stadium. Key points: Originates from Italian football culture. Designed and executed by passionate fan groups (ultras or supporter clubs). Usually features club colours, symbols, slogans, or depictions of players. TIFOs can be static (banners) or dynamic (moving choreography). So while "TIFO" isn't an acronym, it's shorthand for an impressive, fan-driven display of support.

@benfromkent - Thank you!!! I was just about to ask that question. It's like 'you go to bed and wake up and suddenly you're old and there's a whole new way of speaking going on'! :)

It really winds me up when people whine about Blue Action. Young, passionate fans encouraging other young fans and creating a great atmosphere. They are young and enthusiastic, obviously they'll make the odd mistake. I've got nothing but praise for them.

No thank you Blue Action, especially for the Norwich game.

Agree 100% with @gcon comments. I really don’t get the moaning about Blue Action. They really give an awful lot to improving the atmosphere and it seems take criticism on board and try to take other fans into consideration. Without them the atmosphere would be considerably poorer. To the youngsters coming to their first game the atmosphere is all part of it and the colour and noise and adrenaline are what can make people want to come back again and again to keep the fanbase regenerating

Take our share of the blame, but obviously not 100%. We are sorry some supporters view was blocked, but we plan to do it again. Great statement BA.

Give it up. Concentrate on actually making some noise during games rather than pointless displays. Oh, and donate the money to a worthwhile charity

Well I'm over 60 now and I love Blue Action. I consider some of the whining above to be a sad reflection of people who understand little of the modern culture and what these guys are tying to do. I think Roy Keane would refer to you as the prawn sandwich brigade, although i hate quoting that dreadful man! Ask yourself this. When the games are over and the players go to say thanks to the crowd, where fo they go first? It's clear they appreciate it, and in 20 years when i'm 80+, I still will too!!
blues1 added 19:08 - Jun 17
Bazza8564 . To answer ur last question. The 1st place the players actually go to is the north stand. The fact they pass the blue action lot, is simply coincidental. I'm not against them having displays, but as I said, it shouldn't be at other fans expense, which invariably, it is. Whether that be such as this banner for the Liverpool game, which ruined that day for many supporters. Or letting off smoke bombs in the stands, home and away, without any consideration for fans who may have breathing difficulties, for instance. But hey, as long as they get to enjoy themselves, sod the vast majority of fans.

The fans moaning about the Tifo last season are probably the same ones that booed fans that went on the pitch after we got promoted back to the championship. Ipswich have some of the weirdest fans going!! Todos are to inspire and motivate the players, do you want that, do you want them to win?! Its not all about you!!
Bazza8564 added 19:39 - Jun 17
Blues1, Couldn't agree more about Piros, couldnt disagree more about watching the players come out onto the pitch. I used to proudly stand in the North, watching the players come onto the pitch is not what about football is about. The club themselves sent 20' flamethrowers into the air and has kids waving flags in front of the lower west to build up atmosphere. It's about what happens int the 90 minutes that matters. If id have stood in the back of the north 40-50 years ago moaning because I couldn't see someone coming out of the tunnel because of a banner i would have been slaughtered, and rightly so. The same passion that drove us to make noise in the 70s and 80s is the same passion we are seeing from the younger generation now. Embrace it, the club allows it so perhaps we should accept that as their endorsement. "I can't see them coming out of the tunnel" thats just sad. Ive proudly donated

Overall BA has been brilliant for atmosphere at PR including for noise in the Cobbold to help counteract away fans, and for motivational visual displays. Without BA we’d have neither. That said maybe larger flags may be less intrusive and better value than single use Tiff’s? But good on BA !!

A: The Tifo and bus welcome before Norwich last season did nothing but create a superb pre-match atmosphere and we were on top for almost all the first half. Had Broadhead got his shooting boots on we would have been out of sight by half time. Please can we kill once and for all the urban myth that the pre-match stuff had any detrimental impact on the game, it's just nonsense. B: I sit in the SBR Lower and while it was a bit odd not to be able to see the teams come out, the people with their phones ready to film it who then punched/ripped holes in the material kinda gave their motivation away. A lot of stuff gets said about Blue Action but the fact is the atmosphere in the ground can be poor, and they are the only ones trying to do anything about it. Three stands, apart from Cobbold Block A, largely sit on their hands and are silent throughout the matches. I'd love to believe they'd all change their habits for the derby and roar the team on, but face it they won't.

These artistic displays show fans around the world how passionate the home fans are. That said, I can understand that some are annoyed how their view was blocked, albeit for 2 minutes. It's up to Blue Action to find a solution that doesn't block the view but that everyone can get involved in. I know I'll be donating.

Bazza8564. Accept ur view about the comlng out of the tunnel thing, but thats ur opinion, which ur entitled to f course. And for most games maybe that wouldn't have been an issue. But the Liverpool game was a special occasion for many fans, seeing the team walk out in the pl for the 1st time in a long long time. And trust me, there were a lot of people around me, and elsewhere in the north lower who were not happy. Both young and old. For some of us, it could be the last time we get to see us in the pl, im of a similar age to you i believe. So to have missed that proud moment was a big thing to many. Were actually several people(not me btw), who were ripping that banner up just to see underneath it. Which is a shame bcse meant it couldn't really be used again. So while, as I said, im not against these shows of support, they could have made that TIFO much shallower, therefore meaning it wouldn't have blocked anyone's view. That is my view anyway.
