Burgess: What a Ride! Saturday, 14th Jun 2025 22:17 Departing Blues defender Cameron Burgess has issued a goodbye message to all at Town having agreed a three-year deal with Swansea City.
Burgess, 29, was set to be out of contract this summer and opted against taking the new terms on offer at Town in order to join the Swans.
Writing on Instagram, the Australia international says his four years at Portman Road have been the best of his career.

All the very best Cam,you were a key player in our back to back promotions, which we should never forget was an unbelievable achievement , only happened five times in history. Thanks for the memories, and hope Swansea are runners up behind us !

My thanks to Burgess for his performances at Ipswich, which surpassed expectations. He looked just as good as Greaves in my opinion, a player who reportedly cost 20 times more. It is sad to see him leave for free, opting for a team which finished 11th last season rather than being part of our next promotion campaign. He will be missed.

Incredible player for us. His progression was truly amazing. Never forget him coming back to play with 32 screws in his face. In time Cam will be in the hall of fame. Good luck and many thanks Cam.

It is sad for us as another of "that team" goes. But as he says football is a short career and he has to do the best for himself and his family as he sees it. Good luck to Cam and I hope he does well. He will always be a part of the legend around here.

You can understand the need for a fresh challenge. Will be remembered as one from that special team of players. Ashton and McKennas job is to rebuild this team and crrate an even better one.

Yes I agree with so many others he has been great for us and I also wish him all the best. Seems to me his decision must be financial maybe Swansea fooled by his agents claims of big Spanish contracts and we were not ?

Thanks Cam. There is much more that can be said about the choices we have made and decisions that have lead to your leaving but sometimes things can wait and we just need to be grateful for what we had. Thanks again, you gave it everything and we gave you everything back except a song (soz) ! :-)

Best of luck Cam.... you were a solid CB always getting thst tackle in or your head on the ball first. Our loss, and Swansea's gain. You're at your prime now.

A leader departs. We need Greaves, Woolfy and O'Shea to step up. We also need a replacement.... Baggott just not good enough so far.

We simply don't know re Baggot, vas we've literally only seen him play one cup game, and from memory in thst he looked very assured. If he isn't included in this year's squad, we may as well sell him. But I'm really hoping he breaks into the squad now.

Fantastic player and person, our best ‘defender’ and we’ll miss the example he set in terms of his mentality. Never sulked, got on with it, and usually grabbed his chances with MOTM performances. No mention of McKenna. I wonder if the lustre has worn off for a lot of this group with KM.., he’s big on repetition and didn’t inspire any belief the longer we went on last season. It’s a huge challenge for KM .., maybe new voices in the coaching team, and senior support for KM can be the answer. As for the step back being progress, if Hutch and O’Shea follow, we’d get thrashed on motivation alone by the legacy group that got us promoted.

Always gave 100%, going to be a miss and McK needs to do some serious work in the transfer market over the summer

Thanks for your efforts in back to back promotions. Solid defensively but has to find a deal that’s right for him at nearly 30. It’s not the club it’s the package and security of a four year deal. A football career is incredibly short. Good luck with your journey

Absolutely daft transfer. Could have been a key player for us for the next five years.
