Midfielder Ed Upson has signed a new one-year deal with the club. The scorer of the winning goal in the 2005 FA Youth Cup final was amongst the 13 players who were out of contract this summer.

The Bury St Edmunds-based 19-year-old, who is yet to make a first team appearance for Town, spent time on loan at Blue Square Premier side Stevenage last season but was recalled after a month of a planned three month stay having made only one brief sub appearance for the Broadhall Way club.

Having been told he had no future with the Blues by former manager Jim Magilton, Upson then went on trial at Southend, Aldershot and Leyton Orient before being offered another year with Town by new boss Roy Keane.

The central midfield player told the club site that he hadn't enjoyed 2008/09: "It was a difficult season for me last year and I did think that I might have to move on, but the new manager has come in and it's given me a massive boost that he has given me a new contract.

"I'd like to think that I stayed strong last season when things weren't going my way. I kept my head up and played my football and it was an education for me.

"Now I have to take the opportunity the manager has given me and show him what I can do and also show my team-mates what I can do.

"I need to really push on now from pre-season and try and force my way into the first team here."

Upson shot to fame in the second leg of the FA Youth Cup final against Southampton in 2005 when he came off the bench to score the winning goal in extra time when a 15-year-old schoolboy.
