Chilean striker Eduardo Vargas says he would love to join a club in England or Scotland. Town and Celtic were amongst the sides said to have shown an interest in the 19-year-old as his national U21 side won the Toulon tournament earlier this month.

In addition to the Blues and the Bhoys, an unnamed Dutch side is said to be monitoring his situation along with Rangers, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Wigan, Manchester City and several top Mexican clubs.

Speaking to the Scottish media specifically about the Old Firm's interest, Vargas said: "I know a lot of sides have been watching me, including clubs in Scotland and England.

"I really want to play in the UK because that could help me become the player that I want to be.

"I have seen the British game and admire the physical aspect of it. Adding power and strength to my goals would make me a complete striker and playing in Scotland and England would take me to that level.

"People might not get too excited at the prospect of a Chilean coming to Britain but I will change their minds.

"I am relishing the challenge of going to Scotland and becoming the first Chilean to make the grade.”

The highly rated Vargas is valued in the £1.5 million bracket, but it's reported that his club Cobreloa are financially strapped and may accept a bid in the region of £500,000.

Elsewhere, Town are said to be leading the chase for Manchester United winger Lee Martin, who is out of contract this summer with no apparent offer of a new deal at Old Trafford. Bristol City have also strongly been linked with Martin this summer.
