Gomis Linked Again But No More Town Deals
Gomis Linked Again But No More Town Deals
Monday, 10th Aug 2009 08:54

Town are widely tipped to be ready to make a move for Dundee United midfielder Morgaro Gomis by this morning’s papers, but manager Roy Keane is quoted as saying that the Blues have made all their incoming transfers for this window.

Keane said: “Our bit of business is done in the transfer market. I'm fairly happy with the squad. I'm disappointed with the goals we gave away [at Coventry], but that is not just down to defenders, particularly the second goal. Two of our midfielders had the chanced to clear the ball.”

Gomis was first linked with the Blues in May and then again over the weekend and a large number of newspapers both in Scotland and south of the border claim Town are ready to make a move for a fee somewhere in the region of £800,000 to £1 million.

Keane’s comments suggest that the renewed attempt to sign Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy has broken down and that there was little in Dutch reports linking Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

They may not rule out loan moves and the Town boss said at the end of last week that he had spoken to a number of Premier League managers, including Tottenham’s Harry Redknapp, regarding the possibility of bringing players to Portman Road on a temporary basis.

Keane has also said that he expects more members of his current squad to leave before the transfer window closes on August 31st.

A bit dissapointed if I'm honest. I'm in a habit of checking twtd hourly for transfer news, whatever will i do with my day now?!

Hopefully he isn't including loan signings - if we can get Gio back, he would be almost unstoppable at this level. Otherwise think we have a decent squad, despite yesterday's result, and more optimistic than I was a week or so ago. Once we've cut out the defensive blunders we should be looking at top 6 as a minimum target.

I think apart from the defensive bloomers on Sunday that cost us that match,we looked quite good for first match, the thing that will decide our fate at end of season is consistancy, its no good in this division going win one lose one ,R K has got to keep the team motivated not just for each game ,but for 90 mins of each game .I think RK will be on top of that, but will the players have it in them ...we will see .

Dont think we need much else, the squad is a lot better balanced now however i agree with stowtractorboy in that we need a rock at centre back. Someone who will scream for 90 mins and organise.

I don't believe a word of it. This is probably Keane bluffing other teams or players. Hopefully we'll have at least a couple of loan signings come in. Unfortunaltely, I don't think Gio will be coming. If you had just been voted player of the tournament, would you drop down a division and go on loan or would you be looking to move up?

I still think this is a smokescreen so we don't look desperate (especially after an opening defeat) and get ripped off as people know we must still have money after the much publicised £5m Whitehead and Murphy bid?

Means Keane can put in an offer and adopt a take it or leave it approach, rather than a "how much?" approach!

I was always a De Vos supporter, so someone in his mould and David Wright not the shocking Alex Bruce back at right back and we'll be fine.

I don't think RK is referring to loan signings... At least I hope no anyway. Until the Gio speculation is ruled out by both clubs I'll have a little bit of hope!

The team looked fine yesterday to be honest, obviously apart from those 2 nervous defensive errors. And remember what happened last year, too big a squad can cause a lot of problems with consistency.

One thing I've learnt this pre-season: don't believe what Roy says, watch what Roy does. It's a game of bluff to secure targets. Keep it up, Roy.

I think, assuming Gio is a no hoper, we should move for Daryl Murphy on loan, it's clear he doesn't want to drop his wages and we don't want to pay an extortionate fee. Plus we wouldn't want him once we're promoted so a season long loan suits everyone

Still fingers crossed for Gio though!!

We should also get a LB on loan, someone with a bit of pace, that Arsenal youngster looked good for England U21s, maybe out of our league though, not convinced by dawdling Delaney, though he's an improvement on past LBs defensively, a combination of him, Thatcher and Harding would be perfect

Keep the door open...in will come Gomis and Danny Simpson.

Lets push Brucey out the other way...anyone know a team needing a new CB after a humiliating drubbing?

LAY OFF BRUCE!! at centre back he's fine, i would like to see him in the 1st 11 every week but not at right back. David Wrights the man for that position or a QUALITY loanee like simpson again. would like to see Rob Jones from Hibs

A couple of articles to consider when wieghing up out chances of getting back Geo

If spurs have Gio as part of their long term goal then we stand a chance of getting him back. -

However other clubs are inevitably showing interest in him so if they decide to sell, which is a realistic option for Harry Redknapp, then we can kiss goodbye to our star mexican -

be very surprised to see him back as he is highy rated and being tracked by a few top clubs but i think he enjoyed his time at PR and if he sees a future in England coming back would be a good move, even if just til JAN so he can then stake a claim for a Spurs place. Lee martin looks a good bet on t he left and with civelli to return and versatile Peters lets not get to downhearted if it doesnt happen!!! Come on you blues, get the cup game out the way - 2 home wins then were smiling!!!

Would still like to see a dominant defender either beside or to replace captain calamity. Danny Shittu is the man!

Some of the names being put on here are a joke. Leave Roy alone, its his head on the block.

We shouldn't dismiss Gio coming back, We are the championship side he would come to because he loved his time here, so that's sorted. And I don't think Spurs want to sell him because of his huge potential!! But HR may doubt he will get enough experience at Spurs, therefore loaning him out, and why would they to a Premiership opposition, meaning they will send him abroad or to us.
Of course this is just a theory and maybe HR has plans for him this season with Tottenham

Just got back from the USA. Saw Gio play in the final against the US and he was superb. Fingers crossed we can get him back as at this level he would be immense.

Wasn't Roy quoted as saying just the other day that there could be one, two or even three more players added to the squad before the Coventry game? Obviously Priskin was on board by then, but what about the other two? Deals that didn't happen, or is he just being crafty?
Would love to see Gio, but unfortunately I can't see it. IF we got him, we would walk the league if we could keep up the pace, desire and intensity shown 2nd half at Cov.

Leave Murphy well alone if you please..I think we'll be more than alright up front with Stead, priskin,Wickham & Pablo to come back in along with Walters & Martin if needed.
Would prefer seeing Wright or Peters at right back, naturally better going forward than Bruce.
McAuley had a poor start to last season-hopefully he'll start pulling his weight from here on seeing as he's the captain too.
