Keane Expecting a Busy Day
Keane Expecting a Busy Day

Town boss Roy Keane says he expects to have a busy day on the transfer front, but doesn’t expect to complete any deals before the weekend. Keane says he has turned down an offer for one of his players, in addition to his ongoing attempts to strengthen his squad.

Yesterday, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce confirmed that the Blues had been given permission to speak to Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards. Keane says these deals and others still have a distance to progress, with personal terms understood to be a sticking point regarding Edwards in particular

Keane says no new signing is likely to be involved against Preston on Saturday: “There won’t be any signings today.

"We’re doing everything we can to try and make these deals happen and it’s been documented that one or two players have been down to see me and we’re hoping to speak to more players over the weekend. But there’s a long way to go on these deals. It can be hard work.

“Brucey’s come out and mentioned one or two players and I’ve spoken to one or two lads from Sunderland about maybe coming, but there’s a lot to do when you’re trying to get players out of the Premiership, in terms of the financial cost to the club and the desire — I want to find out if these players want to come and play for Ipswich. There’s a long, long way to go for these deals to be concluded.”

Keane says it’s not just a case of players coming in: “We had an offer for one of our players which we turned down. The offer was nowhere near what we thought that player was worth.

“There are so many deals at the club at the moment that are in the balance, in terms of players coming in and one or two players going out that it seems to change by the hour. It’s going to be an interesting day today.”

That offer may have been Doncaster Rovers firming up their interest in striker Jon Stead with manager Sean O’Driscoll confirming that he would be interested in signing the former Sheffield United and Huddersfield man yesterday.

Keane said he has heard nothing from Burnley regarding their reported interest in Owen Garvan and dismissed the claim earlier in the week that he had made a £7 million offer for four Sunderland players, Nyron Nosworthy and Daryl Murphy in addition to Leadbitter and Edwards.

Good news too that Keane isn't going to take anyone who is willing to join us:
"there's a lot to do when you're trying to get players out of the Premiership, in terms of the financial cost to the club and the desire — I want to find out if these players want to come and play for Ipswich"

In other words, they need to "want" to come to us. Just as it should be.

Good good, maybe some of them will be at the game tomorrow?

I reckon the offer was for Stead, but I think he's been hard done by if he is being let go. The poor start has by no means been his fault;he hasn't had the service.

saturday_superhouse your spot on, our midfielders are not up to it, along with a leaky defence. Do feel somewhat sorry for Stead though.

Edwards would be great if he can stay fit. I guess if Stead goes then Walters may get some games up front? Or maybe Edwards will play more at full-back, as RK doesn't seem to fancy D. Wright too much. Either way he would bring some much-needed pace to the team.

Leadbitter would also be excellent, some creativity in the midfield. COYB.

Pompey put bid in for Nosworthy!! Watson would be good signing Gio played for Spurs on Tuesday and highlights on tv shown he was brill. RK speak to Spurs we need him in our team,we also must sign a CB and forward or get Gio play Walters upfront with Priskin Pablo playing off front two, chances will be created and with Lee Martin on the left Ben Watson holding midfield player, sorted

This time of the years is back again. Keano is correct - it will be a crazy day, crazy week-end and CRAZY last transfer day. I just hope we manage to get the most of it this time around. It will be perfect to land 2-3 new players and get rid of 2-3 on good prices.
Good luck Keano - you are gonna need it!

Agree, Priskin and Pablo upfront, but with Watson, how nuch have we heard about him coming, coz all i've heard is rumours. He's of those signings i would be surprised about if he came, but if he did, then what a signing!!!!

Best thing we can do if there's no new signings in 2moz game is 2 put in a good performence, grind a out a win with these potential signings watchin and show them what a great club this is 2 play 4. That goes 4 players, fans and even backroom staff.

COYB!!!!!
